Some Decisions Have Been Made!

told you so dude. have fun at the drr

Nothing is set in stone yet. And if we have to race somewhere else...well so be it.

If you go back and read the 1st post MR. NO-IT-ALL it does not say anything about the mini-stocks...

So just stay out this....O wait I forgot...your trying to help the track out.

Well, I for one LOVE this class and would like nothing more than to see them succeed at The Rock. BUT, come on fellas, this is your chance to have a Friday night track (that is fairly close) so we need to see that there is actually some REAL interest. Otherwise, there is no need to commit to UMP and then not have a car count to support yourselves. I think the sportsman will be an asset to the track IF you guys/gals come together and support yourselves and make this happen!!!!!

I AGREE 100%. IF THEY ARE BROUGHT IN IT AND THE PAY IS WORTH IT, IT WILL BE UP TO THE RACERS TO MAKE IT WORK. IF NOT OH WELL, IT WILL SUC HAVING A RACE CAR IN THE SHOP WITH FEW PLACES TO RACE IT.

How many guys would run Fredricktown???

How many guys would run Fredricktown if ULMA were to sanction the Late Model class? The management is looking at this pretty hard, but need some commitment from drivers. I think this would be awesome, but we need to step up to make it happen. If you're interested, let them know. GO ULMA!!

i was reading the rules for ulma.....im confused.....no aluminum heads......but you can run the 604??? i thought those had aluminum heads on them....am i wrong???

No aluminum heads on open built motors.
604 crate motor only.

As tracks were dropping the crate cars due to low car counts, this gave the drivers who had 602 and 604's a place to race since they already had the motors. and they had proved to be competitive with the other cars.

If you look at the crate cars in that area, and they ran the Fastrak Shows, last year at Poplar Bluff and Malden, it only makes sense to go
with a crate class. Crate cars already present in area!!!

NO Brainer!!!!

I agree! It doesn't make sense to try & start another class. There are already crates in the area & the class continues to grow everyday! The Rock doesn't need to switch classes every year do they? Stick with something & make it grow! Sure the crate class wasn't that big last year, but in all honesty, the track opened late in the season & most were already points racing elsewhere. Crates will not support the UMLA on a consitent basis. The management at the Rock better stick with a plan or they will never make it in the racing business. Not bashing, just stating facts.

go Crates, it draws racers new and old. Motors are dang near indestructable so you'll get a larger percentage of cars everyweek that arent working on their engines. I know when we ran steel block, it seemed like we always had 3 or 4 guys out with a blown engine, no engine, or some kind of problem that comes when guys who race on a budget, build engines themselves. Crate cars will lead to more consistent car counts. For instance this season their wasnt a large number of them(because they started to late) but vary rarely did someone miss a night out of that group, Just cant beat Dependability

Let's compare numbers here.......

Once again I think the UMLA sounds like a good deal but is it what a track like the Rock needs? The Rock needs a solid base of cars to be able to pull from. Can the UMLA provide that? How many UMLA cars are there in the tri-state area? Alot of the under budget late model teams run aluminum heads even if they are a steel block. Many also run a dry sump system as well.

Now lets talk about crate late models..... how many are in the tri-state area ( Southern, IL-Western, KY-SouthEast MO) that the Rock could draw from? I believe it is way more than the UMLA type cars can offer.

Here is a list of the drivers from the tri-state area that ran crates in the now defunct C.A.R.S. Series in 2007......

Almost 200 alone right there that raced crates in the tri-state area. Now add in the 40-50 that ran Fastrak in the area & you have around 250 crate late models you could possibly pull from. More cars are being built as we speak also!

Can we see a list of UMLA cars that the Rock could pull in?

No matter if it is Fastrak or UMP, it is obvious the best choice for the Rock is CRATE LATE MODELS!

The Rock is in the best spot to pull many of the cars listed above for the simple fact that they are pretty centrally located to all these teams. The Rock can & will pull cars from KY, IL & MO.

Just because the UMLA folks may be beating on the door at the Rock the hardest doesn't mean they should be the ones let in.

Again, can we see a list of the guys that are interested in the UMLA?

Think about it Rock Management, do what is best for your track.

thats alot of cars...however, last year if I remember correctly the Crate Late Models had a small car count and high payout. There were a couple races where the car count was good, but overall i remember the LM class to have a low car count. Now Im not saying that it is not possible to pull them to the Rock...Im just going off of what I saw last year. I would love to see the LMs run at The Rock. I would love to see atleast 20 of the 200 cars you listed show up here. The question is will they?

the answer is yes, and heres why. Last season you started late, all of the se mo. cars pretty much committed to tri city because of it being 1st season, new track, great exposure and etc. Of the ones who didnt, they were fastrak and since the goodyears arent allowed, they didnt mess with it. Honestly, It was not really your fault you didnt get those cars because there has been a mild competition going on(friendly, I might add) between Fastrak and Cars. So the guys who ran Fastrak, for the most part supported only fastrak because thay want to see their series do well, just like I did with CARS. So you were really just kinda caught in the middle. I do believe most have put that behind them how and understand that these tracks need support no matter the crate sanction jmo

Shane is right with every word he posted above.

Did I just say that??....LOL

Shane, let me know when you are ready for me to hold that Canister Shock class at C ockrum Motorsports, dates are being booked & going fast....LOL.. Just kiddin :D

Well, that list looks impressive, but..............

You show almost 200 names there, but I can tell you that over 100 of those names are drivers running with a full UMP car. They may have run a show or two with a crate engine, but they aren't going to run a crate for a regular show. Now, with that said ULMA allows Crate cars, too. They just give the option for you to run an open steel motor of your choice as well. Doesn't it make sense that by allowing open steel motors within the stated rules you would pull MORE cars, and not less? Heck, there will also be guys that were running A-modifieds that can pull their motor and put it into a Late Model chassis and compete this way as well. You would have to purchase a crate with all of the other accessories the way that you propose. Yes, I'm lobbying hard for ULMA. I have seen it work on the other side of the state. Currently, I have a full blown UMP Modified race-ready and I will run Pevely, Mt. Vernon, Belle Claire, or Paducah if this doesn't work, but I also have a brand new W.T. Harris Late Model and would rather run the Rock with a Steel Mopar motor if I can. I do not work for ULMA. I'm just a racer from Jackson that's looking for a place to run my car closer than pulling all the way to Jefferson City every week. Go ULMA!!

FASTRAK Midwest Touring Series was allowing the Hoosier tires to run with them in 2007. In 2008 the same thing will happen, the only difference will be if you are on Hoosiers you do not get FASTRAK points. The weekley tracks can decide if they run Goodyears only or both tires, that way if you go FASTRAK you will be able to get cars from FASTRAK and any outher crate series that is on Hoosiers like UMP will be.UMP will not allow Goodyears. So it makes sense to with a series that both tires will be able to run.
I know the guys that run Montgomery County are looking for a Fri. night track.

You show almost 200 names there, but I can tell you that over 100 of those names are drivers running with a full UMP car. !!

Please name the 100 drivers on that list that race a Super Late Model on a regular basis. You might come up with 20 or so, but not 100.

Can we see the list of ULMA drivers in the area? Not trying to be hatefull but the Rock needs car counts. I have provided a list of people who actually race crate late models and are in the area. I don't work for any organization anymore either, just trying to help out where I can by providing some facts.

Fastrak Midwest (the touring series) has proven they can draw good car counts at their events and the Rock should consider booking a show or two with them as well. With the recent events that have played out, I believe you will see the Fastrak Midwest Touring Series draw even more cars at their scheduled events next year in '08.

Sean, I have a question for you..........

Sean, I have a question for you, do you actually race a car yourself? I do, and I want to run at a track closer to my home than 3 hours. This is why I'm advocating ULMA, along with other reasons I've listed before. Also, you ask for a list of ULMA cars in the area. Thats' funny as there aren't any ULMA tracks in this area. That's also why I'm trying to get Fredricktown to go this route. There are crate tracks and the guys that want to run a crate only show can go there if thats' what they're after. I'm all for crate cars running with us, but the problem is that Fastrak won't allow me to run with them. It's a one way street. ULMA allows crates, but Fastrak doesn't allow anything but a Chevrolet and that's not my deal. Can you see my point? ULMA is going strong on the West side of the State and they have good car counts on Saturday nights, as well as at their special shows. They have a good philosophy that was developed by racers that own and drive racecars. They are young as a sanctioning body, but it wasn't that long ago that we were running with the Limited Late Models at St. Francois county and they were bringing in 10-15 cars a night. Add to that the number of crate cars in the area and it makes for a good car count.
Mike Hammerle, Randal Sweeney, and others DO NOT run Crate cars on a regular basis. Add to those names Ed Dixon and others. They also ran Crates at a few shows, but they don't run Crates on Saturday night, they run UMP Super Late Models. I'm also getting together a list of names of drivers that want ULMA and I've been in contact with Fredrock as well. I hope they decide to run ULMA so that those of us that want to build our own motors and run something other than a Chevy have a choice.

The first year for the series around here had full fields at each track. The classes went from under 10 cars a night to 20+.

ULMA grows very fast, it is a good alternative for people not wanting to run crates, we will run down at your track at least 1 or 2 times if you go ULMA. ULMA grows very fast, a few tracks went crates here and the car counts were low they all dropped them. The other tracks went ULMA and the car count grew.

Good luck in whatever you choose, if you go ULMA you will not be sorry over it and will get some traveling cars coming in for some fun. There are no sanctioning fees for the track with ULMA, and it is non-profit. They did just add impact racing as a sponsor and have some others they are getting and already have.

Do they have $250,000 dollars up for grabs. No, but you can build your own motors, work on them, outdrive cars that overpower the track all the time, dont have to worry about people cheating thier motors, if you want to move from or too mods the motors are the same for the most part so the transition is easier. You can run any make that you want too, for the ford guys and dodge guys this is a bonus.

As far as people having 20000+ in a motor like I hear about for ULMA most the cars are not running that expensive of motors. I have about 5000 in my motor and do not get outmotored much, usually the guys with big money in thier motors will overpower the motor. Not to mention that the same guys that will spend $20,000 on a ULMA motor will be the ones to rebuild the crate to blueprint it and buy every add on, and low friction part to get an advantage. Your not going to stop guys with more money than sense from spending money.

If your worried about car count do like callaway raceway did, run both crates with thier rules and ULMA under thier own rules. The two different weight classes, and tires. Then the track can decide to keep one/can the other or too keep running both. It was good racing the crates won some and ULMA won some. This year the track went with the ULMA only.

Good Luck,

Jason

Brad, please don't take it personal because it is not. I just think thata crate late model class works better than a "limited" class, escpecially when the car count is already in the area. I understand your point about building you own engine & being a Mopar guy & all, but the Rock is struggling to make things work and again I feel this is the best thing for them (JMO).

As for the super guys on the list, I went back & counted the super drivers...... guess what, less than 20 on that list.

Again, don't take it personal. One of my best friends (Racer 85) is all for the ULMA and I think it is a good deal....... but not at a struggling place like the Rock. They need car counts.

I understand that the crates can run with the UMLA..... but no weight break and less horses makes it a lot less appealing to the crate guys. The crate guys will go race at the Fastrak & UMP tracks over the UMLA.

The weight brake deal is for ULMA specials or strictly ULMA tracks, when they did a joint deal at callaway the crates had thier own complete rules and ULMA had thiers.

If you showed up at like moberly mo for a ULMA special then you would have to weigh the same as ULMA no matter what. But if your track did both sanctions then you can do the weight brake.

You would have to talk to the ULMA board but they did do dual sanctioning at Callaway last season.
