To The Coward OF Highland Speedway

how the heck does a engine builder say it dont make horsepower!! or should i say make you faster !! Mr hendrick please explain your self cause i think your wrong on this issue.

some of you posters are my friends, some fellow racers, some of you i like and respect, some of you are jerks BUT if if i were scott i would tell the sportsman class to take a hike,if you guys think a smaller clutch makes more horse power you are wrong, what it does is lets the motor bring up the RPMs faster ,thats great in the heats but can get a car un-hooked in the feature also a lighter rotating mass at the rear of the crank can add to the life of the crank/berrings etc..i would think there are "SO CALLED"legal clutch assemblys that cost way more than a mini clutch and can accomplish the same result...i bet if you guys would install a mini clutch the finish results would be the same, actually i only see 3 or 4 fellow highland sportsman drivers on here,,if you were at the meeting i strongly recomended letting mini clutches in with a weight penilty,..............if you think the general membership has a say in allieds rules think again,,the rules are made by a board of directors,,now imput is taken by the board but all rules are made at closed meetings..if scott tells the sportsman to go it wont do squat for me,ill just roll my late model out and be a back marker, something i am not in the sportsman class...it also amazes me that mr deering has not booted this thread due to the derogatory heading....LENNY GARSON

Lenny think what you want man, its still illegal. You wanna look at my clutch, go ahead. I ordered it from Napa, when asked what i needed, i told them i needed a clutch for a like 1970 chevy half ton with a three on the tree for a 10 and a half inch flywheel. It cost me like $129 or something. Now im not saying the triple disc is making them win cause it isnt, these guys can drive no ifs, ans, or buts about it. Without them they still will win regardless. But why make a rule you font enforce. They didnt care that one year they found i think Danny or Mike Ripperda with that stroker motor. They lost all there points They should at least lose points for the night. My whole thing is you guys dont say they make that big a deal, well if they dont why do you feel the need to go spend that much money if they do nothing. Im not an idiot people. You wouldnt put them on there if it didnt help. Tell me im wrong. They say rules are made to be broken, guess what you got caught now man up and suffer the consequences. No cop ever felt to bad for me when i was speeding. Guess what he made me do, suffer the consequences. Im not trying to run this place in the ground cause i grew up watching there. Just wanting to get this class under control before its gone people.

Facts

35. Clutches:

Any OEM style clutch allowed.

No racing pressure plates. 10” minimum.

Aluminum flywheel allowed.

Multi-disk clutches will only be allowed on Allied legal motors per 2010 Allied rules (AARA).

Any violation of these rules are considered cheating and upon the first offense, all Highland Speedway points earned through the date of the offense will be stripped from the driver; the driver will start with zero points the following week.

Congratulations to the new points leader, Jimmy Cummins.

Lenny, thats all well and good for Scott to give the Sportsman the boot as you call it. BUT.. what does that say for him as a promoter? It's OK to cheat and get away with it. Not very professional.

It clearly states in the rule book, the cars with the 400 ci motors (and we all know some of them have more ci. than that, because of clean up on the motor) CAN NOT run the triple disc clutch. SO what is the problem, that he can't ENFORCE his OWN rules..? That is the question.

At the driver rules meeting 2 years ago, who wanted the bigger motors/400cubic inch...dart blocks? To heck with keeping the cost down and keeping the class competetive. Thats what keeps car counts up. Look how many cars have quit coming back after that, maybe beacuse some can't afford the expense of new motors to compete. As a promoter I think I would look at that.
The Allied cars are far more inferior, engine wise to the Highland cars to begin with, they are only a 360ci. moter. The 3d clutch just gives them a little more advantage coming off the corners. BUT, they are still out horsepowered to the Highaland engine rule.

When you have the same 4 or 5 every week in top 5's, it makes you wonder. It was stated that the have had the clutches in for awhile. AND the 4bbl carb trick has been done before. SO why have the officials not policed their OWN rules? Thats all we are asking. BACK up your own rule book.

If they win with sportsmanlike attitudes or abilities is one thing, but if did they made the discision to push it, and to go against the rules, to win any costs, thats a whole different deal.
This is not some grade school soccer game where you're afraid to hurt the feelings of the player, that kicked the ball in the wrong endzone goal..! Good job.. pat on the back, everybody gets a trophy..!

Granted we don't get to Highland much but the stands were not packed when we were there.

Also, UMP needs to assign someone who knows the sportsman class to help set the rules. Dean Nichols or Don Horner would be good candidates. Unless UMP goes this route they will never have set rules. Just my humble opinion.

AK

I agree with you AK what would be wrong with them using Dean of (Extreme Series) and Don H of ( Allied), and each track sends two drivers from that class that was voted to go by the drivers of that track and the person running the track to go and and help set up a base line so cars can run here, up there or over there or down there . we just got to many tracks around here to just say track rules cause then your stuck at whatever track you run at . To the poster that said there needs to be a class dropped anyway so why do you be the first , good answer way to fix a problem ,now you have even less money to pay out for the classes , and they have just as much time and there money wrapped up in this class as others do . so i say to you just leave when the lates or the mods are done pretty sure from your post that is all you are there for anyway , and if you get rid of the other classes sportsman here street stocks there ,pro 4 there ,then just were will your classes pull from to stay alive . Again great answer !!

Don't loose perspective. This is Scott's track per his contract with the fair board. He has the authority to run his business as he sees fit. If he changes his rules or decides not to enforce them that is his prerogative. It is no different than a store or restaurant changing its sales items or menu. The fine print reads "everything is subject to change without notice".

You can ask the store keeper, restaurant, or track promoter not to false advertise. You could ask everyone you know to ask them not to false advertise. Or you could ******* the business. (That's what I do but I am willing to come back if they improve their product.) Most places will correct the problem.

If he has plenty of business and doesn't want yours (or mine) then don't expect any changes. If you can convince enough racers and fans to ask Scott to fix the problem he most likely will.

Wheel spinner. .. then what is the point of making up a set of rules that you are not going to enforce.

Back in 2002 a track had a rules meeting and passed out a set of printed rules and went over them. We built our car as per that set of rules. THEN that track merged with another track and made up a new set of rules. We didn't know that. So on the night of our son's FIRST feature win EVER, he was DQ because the rule about the spring torque arm was change to rubber bisquits only. He wasn't given a week to change it. They came and tracked me down in the stands and stripped the trophy from my hands (his MOM) and said he was disqualified. NO points No money No trophy.
SO please explain to me why, should this be any different? I did get a personal apology from the promoter after the fact, but it still hurt because the rule was changed and it made our race team look like cheats, which was never intentional.
We changed to the correct bar. The son came back 2 weeks later and won the feature again.
Rules should be set in stone. They shouldn't be overlooked just to satisfy a few. Sure it's Scott playground and he can do what he wants. But in racing you should have to keep an even playing field with the rules and the racing surface, to make it work smoothly.

I agree with you. (As much as I hate to use the words 'If I') If I run the show all rules would be "in print" and any changes or clarifications would also be made in print posted on the pit shack, and handed out to each racer effected. That is just how I do things and how I expect those I associate with do things. Scott does thing differently. He decides what is fair and how level his playing field should be. You decide if you want to associate with him.

Scott made those rules to bait you in. Now that you are there you find what he is serving or selling isn't what you thought. What are you going to do?

There is an advantage to the tri disc no matter what is said. If not why are the select few that have them bothering with them? So trying to arguing the point by minimizing the advantage isn't a very good one. jmo

I have been reading post on here for over eight years and have never seen such a rebellion against a race track devision . I have been waiting for Scott Kuhn to post some sort of rebuttal in this tread but so for he or any other official hasn't seen fit to defend their selves on the cheating going on at Highland . They need to get on here and talk about this .

No. Scott doesn't need to post.. I am reminded of an old quote:

"It is better to be quite and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt."

a coward never speaks!! thats why they called him it!! plan and simple the trip dis make you faster!! I really think you can drive in deeper and come out of the corner faster!!

john,i dont give a rats arse what anybody else is running, you can be running a bert for all i care, just as a side thought, just what do you all think i am running behind my motor?? now just cause you have a so called "STOCK" clutch we both know that a very light weight assembly that is seen as legal can be had but the cost is way up there, its cheaper to run a used bert or brinn by the time you figure in the above mentioned clutch (uasually sold with a fly wheel)and a 3 or 4 speed tranny..yes,a used 3 disc can be had for ,uasually $200 bux or less but then as some of you are saying"it aint legal"...ya know, instead of beating up a guy that gives us racers a place locally to come race, why not try to set up a meeting at the parts store for one evening and make it so ONLY sportsman drivers/owners can have a say..here is WRPs no..618 654 3001==let me repete that 618 654 3001...OH YA,ya all have a happy n safe 4th...lenny g.

The End for Highland?

Highland changed when SARA dissolved. It was bad then, but not like now.Their SN show was the best I saw so far. 41 Sportsman cars at I-55 was impressive!

Lenny g(aka Fireball) not to be disrespectful but i don't think it really matters what you got behind your steam engine you are a back marker or a lapped car most of the time anyway . All they are asking is for some consist in the calls and the rules . Yes i think John went the wrong way about trying to get it fixed(To The Coward Of Highland Speedway is a bit harsh) but we all have in the heat of the battle. So all we can do now is move on and ask Scott for a meeting to get this problem fixed before we do start to lose our car count in this division ,and just saying go ahead and leave is not the answer . Scott has done a lot to this track sometimes i think he is trying to much to fast and i know or i think i know all he is doing is trying to get it back to a nice looking track and a nice place to come to but he is just not consist on his calls and on the rules yet. give him time it will come hopefully sooner that later before its to late . As a racetrack operator you can make most of the people happy most of the time but not all the people happy all the time . We can argue all we want but we are not Scott we cant fix it only he can now it is in his hands to run with lets see were he goes with it from here .

backmarker some of the time but i cant recall but one time this year that i got lapped while driving my "steam engine" but then BOB what car do you drive???most of the time you do make good sense but there are a lot of "comupter drivers"on this site that cant get a storie stright no matter what,i wish i could afford a better car but its all i got other than my late model and its so down on power it is no fun to drive,,where as the #1 is great fun, dont think i spent $300 on it this year n passed some good cars a time or two
