Very disappointed in Poplar Bluff Speedway

They'll change the racin' back to the yellow rule, "when somebody gets hurt", then it will be to late.

If you don't like racing back to the caution, how about the "one spin and you're in" rule? Send any driver who spins on his own and sits and waits for a caution to the pits. Would you prefer that instead?

There were a lot fewer cautions Saturday night because of the current rules. As it was, the show concluded about 11:15. If not for racing back to the caution I would guess that it would have lasted well past midnight.

I'm not a proponent of racing back to the caution, but something needs to be done to keep the show moving and 99 times out of a hundred, a driver who spins and waits for a caution is BETTER OFF, not penalized, by being allowed to restart on the rear rather than firing it back up and continuing on in the race.

I am surprised that none of you have commented about the announcers.....WOW!

Race cars are very expensive, and when drivers get injures most of them temporarily loose their ability to work. That makes racing back to the caution scary. As I under stand the racing back to the caution rule as used in some series it is only done when the track is pretty much clear, and when it is unsafe the red and yellow are waved together, and there is no racing back, is that the rule there? If so it aint that bad. The running the dash first is dumb, but it does reward the guys who come back every week, I hope they change it to be the top guys from the heats, but it might sound bad just because its different.

People should let these guys know what they expect from a racetrack, it will help them to succeed. As for me I want to see them keep the tire rule like it is(55s or lm40), keep the facility like it is(really nice), and use the format that I-55 has used very successfully for years. With their tire rule, facility, and location they could be a great deal.

I currently have sponsors that want to tie me to I-55, and some that want to tie me to Poplar Bluff, I am in the middle being pulled both ways, I will feel much more strongly about the format down there if I get pulled hard that direction this week. The 55 is a little bit better than the lm40, so if I decide to race their I would need to buy them, and that would cause me to not have tires for any CofC or Sumernationals races. It is a tough decision, please keep all of us posted on the possibilities of changes to the format, and clarify the racing back to the caution thing, there was a big deal made about it on 4m at some tracks last year or the year before.

yes, annoucers were kinda how do i say this in a nice way, bad? well they just have to learn how to commentate on the racing...also to that guy, the drivers can not hear you in their cars so don't waste your breath telling them that they are under a cation.

Also if the B3 mod would have been a little late on "firing it back up" he would have been hit for sure..Racing back to the cation should be done away with, also how many 360's were there and not one cation? hmm..my 2 cents...again.

not to bash the track to bad cause it is their first night and all but, man the bathrooms on the grandstand side were awfull, i went out behind my truck and peed, also i think they should have put the "tower" on the grandstand side instead of the back straight then it wouldn't be hard to score anyone cause they can go back to the last completed lap..JB

I understand this is a new facility and certain things will take time to improve on but when the driver's safety is an issue there is no time to waste. For anyone who continues to go to Poplar Bluff maybe bring the racing back to the caution issue up at the driver's meeting. Just an idea. ;)

Well, I guess I wasn't too surprised to see the response from last nights races. I appreciate the comments, even if some were a bit harsh, but everyone can't be happy.

It looks like the "racin to the caution" rule has really got a lot of people fired up. Its a rule we decided to try, whether its a good or bad one. We have done the best we could do to keep the track good, and keep the races running smoothly. Its our first night folks, its gonna take some time. We are fellow racers too, and some things may have to be changed. We hope everyone will not completely "judge" the track just by its first night. Your feedback helps us, by letting us know what the racers want. If you feel our track isn't the best, we're sorry you feel that way, but we are doing what we felt to do. We enjoy all the classes, whether everyone feels its too many or not. We felt that everything went fairly well Sat. nite, and we hope to keep things going as quickly as possible. I don't know about anyone else, but it does stink to get home when its almost time for the sun to rise.
Well, I hope we can get the "kinks" worked out and hopefully have a safe and fun racing season.

I want to apologize for our concession stand lines, we tried to be as prepared as possible, but it was hard to really know what the first night was going to bring. We are going to be working on getting things up and rolling as efficiently as possible, so please be patient.
We had some problems with our bathrooms ( problems can happen anytime and anywhere). The plumbers will be back on it this week, and hopefully that won't happen again.

I thought for the first night Poplar Bluff did OK. It was their 1st night, maybe a break should be given. The racing back to the caution thing may be dangerous; but it did speed up the show & no one was hit on the caution (yes, it did get close). The ladies bathroom situation was bad; they should just get Johnnys for back up (there was another bathroom, but you had to hike to it!). Though I must say they were very clean. The track was very smooth, I thought it was going to be a dust bowl; but it was not bad at all. They really need to get rid of the hay bales, what a mess (lots of sneezing & itchy eyes). We have set ups for most kind of track conditions, but not hay. Poplar Bluff does have a great facility.

Ms Adamson,

First of all, good first night. I do think you guys did some great things, and some bad things, but I brought what I thought was bad up to the officials while at the track. So I wont get into that here. With me being so far away, dont know how often i will get back to PBS. But I do know, that I will be back. Awesome track surface. The only thing I would want changed as a driver, is racing back to the caution. And the flagman beinga bit quicker on the draw. But all in all good track for the first night.

Miss race 89 are the rules still the same for the dirt dobbers as in the rule book you sent me last year?? thanks

It's great to see the track co-owner on here listening to the thoughts of the fans and drivers alike. It appears that they are proactive in a sense. Just hope that things don't happen to make them have to be reactive.

I wanted to comment on the time saving procedures. Knowing that there would be a problem with 6 classes of cars running why would racing back to the caution be choosen over reducing the classes to 4? Running fewer classes would obviously make for a shorter show and would allow for the racing back to the yellow rule to be taken away. Safety and and speedy show.

Can't wait to see the track, just hope that things are a bit different by the time I'm able to get down there.

In all honesty, I'll bet it's quicker than that. Best wishes to the Poplar Bluff staff and promoters! It may be tough at first, but I'll bet you come out just fine!!

Chill out?????

I am very complimentary toward the track and offer positive suggestions and you tell me to chill out?

Perhaps you should say that to the others who have posted how disappointed they were, or who are saying they will never come back until they stop racing to the yellow.

I said that I enjoyed the first night and look forward to returning in the future and to that you say "chill out"? Millsey, you posted that the promoter has a "suggestion box". Isn't that what I made; suggestions?

philo, you wrote a book on here that I could not sit through, and you started it with a suggestion that you admitted race teams would not like.

Say what you want, suggest what you want, fans come to see the top couple classes, unless they have family in the others. If you do things the racers dont like they wont come, they make the show, you need them to entertain the crowd. Ignore people like philo who start out with things racers wont like. Explain your racing back to the caution rule in detail, so people will atleast understand it and be able to know if they like it or not, after all napcar just left that rule last year.

Dean,

Racers don't like "racing back to the yellow" however the PB Speedway is currently using the rule in order to speed up the program. I suggested an alternative that would continue to speed up the show, but would not be as dangerous. Once again, just a "suggestion"

In an earlier post in this thread you said "people should let these guys know what they expect from a racetrack, it will help them to succeed" and you then, as a racer, gave your suggestions.

So when I, as a fan, provide my suggestions you say to ignore people like me? Dean are you really saying that these new promoters should ignore the fans?

One of the other reasons for racing back to the caution that was stated in the drivers meeting to help allieviate the "judgement" call. Your spin and out rule is ok, but what about if you get spun by someone?? There are tracks where there shouldnt be racing back to the yellow. But at the same time, PB is wide enough, shouldnt be a problem. Ive been associated with more tracks that do race back to the caution than those that dont. I dont like it, but something you grow accustomed to.

Racing back to the yellow is dangerous and to be quite frank it is really stupid. I don't like to get down to name calling like that, but risking the health of your drivers to speed up the program is like putting civilian shields in front of your tanks on the battlefield. It can hurt the backbone of your existance without providing any real gain. Someday there is going to be someone seriously injured sitting on the racetrack and an inexperienced driver is going to have the lead cars dart into the hole and miss it only to run the unwitting guy straight into it. In that situation the driver with the already broken back has his spinal cord severed and would lose the use of his legs forever. What does that mean to his family who counted on him to help support them. This type of stuff already happens and with these type of rules you are going to at a minimum triple the odds of it happening.

I personally have no problem with a "one spin that brings out a caution and you are done" done rule. A few years ago when backmarkers spun out and they knew they were safe they would refire and take off. Now we have people sit until the caution comes out even if it puts them in more danger to do so.
