Very disappointed in Poplar Bluff Speedway

I WOULD THINK IT WOULD RAISE THE ALREADY OUTRAGEOUS PRICE OF INSURANCE WITH A RULE SUCH AS THIS.

Philo,
What I'm saying is if you want to give a suggestion, do so, but if you want to be "The Racing Critic" then you need to write a book and see who would buy it. When I said they had a suggestion box I was meaning you could fill something out and give it to them so they could read it privately.

Please don't take it that I'm coming down on you, all I'm saying is the place is new and it's going to take some time to get the bugs worked out. Suggestions are fantastic, but criticing the place right now seems a bit harsh.

Actually, Jeff, the only thing that I was critical of was the announcers and if you were there Saturday night I'm sure that you would understand.

With so many people coming down on the Speedway for racing back to the yellow, Ms. Adamson responded that one of the reasons they do it is to speed up the show. That is why I offered alternative suggestions (Caution rule, fewer laps for support classes, shorter or no intermission) that would save time in place of "racing back to the yellow".

I felt that it was important for me to illustrate why, and how, I was making these suggestions which made the post very long, but I really feel that if you re-read it you will see that it is made in a very positive tone. That is why I was surprised at the negative reaction from both you and Dean.

My visit to Poplar Bluff was my 187th different speedway in 24 states. I was also hoping to add Fredericktown to my list last Saturday, but Mother Nature said "no". Best of luck to you with your opener this week and here's hoping that the Poplar Bluff Speedway has a long and prosperous existence.

Man, if you thought the Poplar Bluff announcers were bad, wait until you hear that idiot at Fredericktown.... He's really crappy..

We all know how I LOVE to repeat myself, but here goes... please don't forget that it was their FIRST NIGHT.

As far as the announcers go... The guys at MCS were kinda rough when they first started (at MCS's first night) but they were new to the sport and they've come a LONG way and now the MCS fans just love them. A note to the PB announcers - don't let this discourage you, you may be a little green at it, but it will come to you in time.

Please, everyone - give this track, it's decicated promoters, staff and supporters a little time to get in the groove before you come down on them so hard and they lose their optimism! I think that in the next couple weeks, we'll all see some major improvements and the track will be another great track to visit and race at.

I was never trying to come down on the track, i just think that they do stuff thats unsafe and also stuff that is stupid. I know with time it should be alot better, but they need to drop some of there classes to many classes. LIke said in a earlier post not many people go to watch pure street and dirt dobber classes especially when the dirt dobbers only had 2 cars. Also they shouldn't run the late models and modifieds almost last for them are the two the fans come to see most. And the only other thing i said was racing back to caution is stupid, and also the havint hte dash before the heat races is stupid and pointless. Not downing the track, i am sure i will revisit it just not for a while. I would for sure go if they let some sprints get on that track, i'm sure they would scream. Or if they brought in a big late models or mod race. The mods and late models scream around that and they put on a very good show i think. Its just they only need like two other classes like pure street and super street, or super street and cruisers. 6 classes is just to many classes and i would think alot of people would have to agree. Cuase usually there ain't good racing in them classels cause you have your people who go all out to make it on the tip toe of illegal, and then the people that are just trying to race. SO usually you have one guy fast as H E L L who leaves everybody, THats how it was sat. night very boring in my opinion. So i just said to eliminate to classes just my opinion sorry to offend anyone. Cuase i am not trying to say this track ****s i know it will take time, i was just stating my opinion cause maybe if the fans say something the track promotors might see itand make a change. Considering thefans are pretty mcuh what makes the track money.

LOL...my guess is that it is you, Millsey, who is the announcer at F-town! I'm sure that you do a fantastic job.

Racewidow, AGAIN, please re-read the post. I didn't just criticize, I offered suggestions:

- Drivers in their cars on the track cannot hear you

- Know when the checkered flag waves

- Know the divisions by sight

- Promote the next night of racing more often than novelty events that will be happening in June and July

I'll add a couple more:

- When calling a race use names instead of numbers ("here's the 42 car closing in on the 27, oh no a yellow flag for the 25...)

- During a caution let the crowd know how many laps are completed and, or how many laps remain.

I also complimented them on how well they treated the sponsors during the evening!

You know, I know, everybody knows that they will get better, but only if somebody gives them suggestions on how to get better!!! With all of the other responsibilities on opening night, I doubt if the Adamson's had any opportunity to listen to the announcers and provide suggestions.

Mh2, it's easy to see that you are a fan and have never had anything to do with management of a track. They have no choice but to race those "horrible other classes" that you apparently don't like. You see those classes are the ones who make the late models and the good payouts for the modifieds possible. Without them, there would be NO LATE MODELS, NO SPRINTS, NO GOOD PAYOUTS. Sorry, but that's just the way it is.

hey millsey i ddin't mean it like that anyways they can have a few classes, i don't know of many tracks that have 6 classes of cars. Farmington sure doesn't pevely don't just to name a few. I didn't say to drop all of them i just said a few, to make like 4 classes total. THats just my opinion two dirt dobbers don't make the payout for htem late models, that class needs to be dropped for sure. Just my opinion jeff, ain't trying to start S H I T

I'll go back and re-read, philo. I just wanted it known that all these suggestions can be overwhelming and can bring a negative impact and put negative thoughts into something so positive.

Well let's take Farmington for example...

This year they are going to be hurting because of all the expected sprint cars.. When you figure it's $1,500 to win going down to $200 to start the "A" main and then $100 for every car that raced in a "B" or even "C" main, then you are talking about a **** load of money just for the sprint. Add it up.. Even at $25 per pass, that mean a sprint car has to bring in 4 people just to make payout for the guys who didn't even make the feature.
It's a risky, risky business and those support classes are invaluable....

I tend to disagree with you on that Racewidow, the fact that they are getting this type of feedback is due to the large crowd that they had on opening night. That's a good thing.

The only bad thing, and when you re-read my "book" you'll see that I referred to this, is that this is all coming under a thread titled "Very Disappointed in Poplar Bluff Speedway". I think we should copy and paste these posts to a new thread entitled "Solid Opening Night at Poplar Bluff" and then erase them from this thread. Are you in?

Saturday night at 7:30 at Poplar Bluff Speedway racing will begin with Cruiser trophy dash with Ice/Gilton #313 starting on inside pole position with Redden/Redden#D59 outside pole. Second row inside will be Rutherford/Reed #66 and fourth position will be Hanley/Swofford #5X, last week's feature winner. Following this will be Pure Street 4-lap dash with Allen Shaw #15 on pole position with Red Rice in the #43 on the outside pole. Second row inside position will be #92 Eric Lacey, beside him will be #97 Paul Reeder, last week's feature winner. Next will be the Super Street Class with Tim Winchester in the #30-30 car starting in the pole position with Jason Pennington in the #21 car starting outside pole. Second row inside in the #007 car will be Doug Moore with last week's feature winner Jared Wagster in the #34 car starting fourth. Then it will bring us to the IMCA Modified Dash with Claudie Cook in the Mee2 car starting on the pole with the #8H of Jason Hughes starting outside pole. Second row inside will be Campbell, Missouri's Robert Powers in the #02 car with last week's feature winner Scott Weber in the #4J car starting in the fourth position. Which then will bring us to the #14 Brad Looney in the Late Model division starting on the pole position with the #14 JR of Steve Rushin starting on the outside front row. Second row inside will be the "Ford-Powered" #97 Joey Mack with last week's feature winner #13 Brent Kreke.

I want to say thank you and congratulations to everyone that has supported the Poplar Bluff Speedway. It has been a long two years, but Saturday night proved that it has been worth the wait. My crew, my staff, my drivers and spectators "YOU'RE THE BEST!"

There is no such thing as being to harsh in one's criticism of race track policies that endanger their drivers. The idea of racing to the yellow on any level (and especially this one) just plain borders on pure stupidity. I thought long and hard about a nicer more pc way to put this, but I have yet to get there.
