I am surprised we havent heard from Dean. What we all need is a one tire rule. 40 or 55. Worked excellent at Poplar Bluff. Heat races are much more even. Harder tires take a bunch away from the motors.

I doubt we will ever see this in UMP due to its Hoosier connection.
Kreke13 that would make to much sense.

Any track or sanction mandating Hoosier tires that last 1 or 2 races are screwing their racers and lining their pockets.

Yes..but for some reason..the organizations are scared to throw a tire rule in the clinker..i dont know why either..but..since they wont..hit them in the powerplant area and save a dwindling and cost exploding class while there are still people able to run it.

Yes they are dirt hound..lets just make it a 1 compound hard as a rock rule..which they wont do. Thats a proven fact because this issue is like 10 yrs old and nothing is ever done to make it happen. So..let mess with the engines..and..that save money..make them last tons longer(know what the life span of a ump engine is??) and everyone benefits. Wont be like they are only going 40mph...lol. Everyone seems to think this will make them like buggys..but..anyone see the steelers run tri city?? They flew! And for everyones info..they did a tire test...3 yrs ago..several different compunds..and found...even with hard ones..if you got a wopping engine to spin tha chit outta them...they are almost as fast as new ones. Thats a fact..was in speed sport.

you would be surpized at what some top flight ump teams in this area have or don't have and are very competitive

even my spec motor loving buddie has the right idea put the crates inthe sportsman the tracks need a feeder class if they don't have pure stocks

Mark Oller -steel block
Steffens in 03 -Steel block
not everybody at Pevely runs aluminum so the people who are complaining about not being able to run at tri city .I know this is a crate model thread but I just wanted to opint that out.

I believe Vince Grondzki, Rick Standridge, and John Lansford all won features at Belleville with steel blocks.

You boys that are so infatuated by this 'magic new class' need to do a little research. Go to the fastrak site, and read the founder's vision. He talks like the 'super successful' people that you see advertising get rich quick schemes on cable tv. You know what he's selling? HE'S SELLING FRANCHISES! If you want this magic class in this area, all you have to do is step up with some long green, and buy your very own franchise. Then try and get a promoter(or you) to guarantee a $1200-$3K purse for 10 355-400bhp cars that can't spin the tires. That will no doubt pack the stands. Now some facts: They have 8 member tracks on their site. 1 has closed the doors. 2 are "Hobby" tracks, racing 4 cyl's and Sportsmen cars. 1 is a steel head/ block LM track, 1 has Crate LMs as the top class, and 2 are similar to UMP LMs. Hard to tell how many times they raced in 2004. Maybe 10 times, but results are only shown for 6. Average car count: 12(high= 15, low=10). If you want to run for points, kick in $500 for a 'membership'($400 next year). Oh yeah, the points fund and purses are being 'restructured'. Seems they are too top-heavy. OK, you also will have to buy a set of radios, cause they are allowed. If you do not have them, you will be at a very large disadvantage. Add $1000-$1500 to that crate LM, and tie up a crew guy spotting. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate these guys, but I think things should be laid on the table for all to see. But I do get tired of them, on every BBS on the net, pushing their snake oil to run-at-the-back rubes who think the only reason they are in the back is a lack of money, not sense and talent. Listen to 1 of your own, t.nie. He is spot-on, except for the stuff about L.G.! P.S: I'm a pavement guy, whose Super LM team budget, while outlandish to some, is woefully underfunded compared to the $500K+ spent by some of our competitors. We have trouble making most big shows, and run in the back when we do, but if we wanted to be a big fish in a small pond and run up front, we would back up several classes , not whine about Eddie Hoffmann's big transporter, or David Stremme's free ride. Everybody can't win! Most are field-fillers! Get used to it! Race, spend all your money, drink beer and have fun. That's the most that 90% are going to get. I need a pill.

Let me weigh in on this one. I am the director for Fastrak. This was our 1st season. 1st race was miserable. We had 5 cars. Our 2nd race we had 17 cars. Our last race we had 51. We had 1 repeat winner in 13 races. We identify the engines by their last 3#'s in the part number. The 602 which cost $2995 won 5 races, the 604 which cost $4995 won 6 races, our series crate engine cost $5000 and won 2 races. Our series champ won with the 602 and a used GRT chassis. Our average lap times on a 3/8ths and smaller track are within .5 seconds of LM times. On a 1/2 mile and bigger track we are withing 1 second. If you think these cars won't spin their tires, you will be amazed. The fans absolutely love the show. 3-4 wide, passing everywhere, and exciting! The membership is $400 and the very least you will get is 4 new tires. Our points races will be a minimum of $1500 to win and $100 to start. Traveling is limited to a region. For example, the Mid East Region which includes WV, OH, KY, and VA, all travel is within 3-4 hours of Huntington, WV.(the center of the region). Radios are allowed but some have them, some don't. We listen in, if you are caught using them to block, your car will be black flagged and the radio removed.
Our points fund for 2005 is $50,000. We also have $100,000 in contingencies to be awarded on a per race basis. We have a $5000 Manufacturers Cup Championship for 2005 as well.
As far as franchises, we supply the rules, points fund, tech training, support, the whole works. This is just an alternative to us hiring a ton of people and running it all ourselves like the monopoly that other sanctioning body has created.
We aren't looking for anyone's approval here. We already know Fastrak works. We are already doing it in 2 regions. We are just looking for others who may want in.
Rubes that run in the back and whine, move back a few classes. LOL! What class would you suggest? We have 4cy spending $9500 on engines, bombers spending $15K, modifieds spending $25K, LLM spending $30K, our LM's are now spending $50K plus on engines alone another $30K on the chassis. So if a guy or gal wants to race a real race car and not just a car that races they should have to mortgage the house to do it or get a big time sponsor? All because 3-4 people in a class are afraid to race on the same level as everyone else? So 3-4 people can continue to bully the rest of us with their wallets? I am sorry, I don't buy into the I can spend more than you can brand of racing. That brand of racing is killing our sport. It is sending drivers home broke in droves and closing our local tracks because they can't pay the big purses and still pay the bills.
I can talk about this all day and all night: Bottom line is if we want to keep enjoying those big $$$$ Super Late shows, we better restore our support classes to just that, support classes. If we stay on our current course, there won't be anybody running but the very richest teams and only the big tracks. All us grass roots people who work for a living and race for FUN will be gone.
As far as our founder and Ceo, Stan Lester. Number 1, he is not a career promoter. Up until he started this deal he was a racer. Stan does not hunt, he does not fish, he does not go to football games or anything esle. Stan is a racer and that is all he does, period. He has come thru on ever single promise he has made. Unlike some series, his points fund actually pays.
We understand, this deal sounds to good to be true but believe me it is not. We lowered the cost of engines and tires. We evened up the playing field. It is as simple as that. No rocket science, just common sense.

Doc

Well said doc22. Its all about the big picture..forming a weekly affordable series with cost management..and good racing. The people who actually participate in racing a car..weekly..busting their butts to make ends meet and be competitive..are the ones who will benefit from this. I might be stupid dirt hound...but at least i do the best with what i have or know. In 3-4 year..watch...the ump late models as we know..will dwindle..look at what mt vernon did..remember what godfrey did couple of years ago? Wont be able to run them because of the cost of their purses versus car count. Once again..if anyone has ever tried to promote or help a racetrack run a show..they will know exactly what im talking about.

ump late models have been dwindling since there inception, the sky is falling the skiy is falling ahh the good ole days of triple trac godfrey getting about 20 pevely less than that and the charlie bowl getting about 5

I don't know if Racer20 is still visiting this sight, but it would appear that UMP has to deep of roots in this area, therefore, he/she might be barking up the wrong tree. It would be interesting to see him/her start a thread on "InthePits.net". I know the following racetracks in Missouri could benefit from this type of series since they all ran last year some form of limited-late model's or outlaw sportsman and belong to no sanction series: Callaway Raceway, Central Missouri Speedway, Valley Speedway, Wheatland Raceway, Winston Speedway & Springfield Raceway. I counted up the number of cars last year that ran sometime during the year at these tracks and the number might surprise you - 107 cars total. Just a thought!

Yes, the regulars "flew," until one night when a big boy showed up with a steel block LM, best of everything on it, talented and experienced man behind the wheel, and of course, he just lapped the whole damn field after starting dead last.

Yeah. I remember that night extremely well. It musta all just been that incredible motor he had in that car. But if I remember rightly, in the post race interview, Mark said he was just there "testing" out a new suspension setup on the car for Kruckenberg. In fact, I remember looking over at that big old enclosed transporter, all those toys inside, and thinking man, that car has been up on jacks since the heat race, they are just wrenching away on that thing, must be changing the motor, the amount of work they are doing on it. Go figure.
