Makes a person wonder if those guys are getting all the bang for their buck.

Just goes to show ya that you can't buy driving ability.

By the way, are sliders legal???

Important Note #5 amazingly disappeared but I don't recall it getting voted out.

That would be in #20 now nothing disappeared

I talked with Jon Reando (tech man) and J.J. Johnson (tech man) and both said those rearends would be illegal. (tech man) .
Jeff is right sorta........when I was asked my reply was.........When I was a paid "RAMS Member" in "2004" the Ford axle in the Chevy was not legal.
I have not kept up with the rules evolution of the RAMS so LEAVE ME OUT OF IT:D

Tony...every year the RAMS have tried to fill those gaps, but without this very important statement in the rules...it opens it all up. Some like those big ol gaps.

Anything not specified in these rules must be stock from the manufacturer.

It used to be in the rules some time ago...but the rules that they were looking through this weekend didn't have that statement any longer.

But you guys must of voted that statement out of the rules so I guess pretty much there's a whole lot that is legal. But that's cool if that's what you guys wanted and voted on. I'm not sure on all of that because I haven't been a member this year and have not attended any of your meetings.

That statement was not removed for this year. I believe it was removed for last year, or at the October meeting in 2004 at Festus Ponderosa.. The rules were went through one by one then voted on as a whole. The statement was no longer on the rules when we voted on them, it was not announced that it was removed from the rules it was just removed. I did not notice it myself until racing started in 2005 and someone pointed it out to me. At least that is how my old brain remembers it, someone correct me if I am wrong.

my view

as a member of the rams from 2002 till this year (techman, vice pres.,secretary) ,i attended almost every rams meeting-as techman for most of this time i can tell you that 9 inch rearends under the chevys were brought up every year,by me(along with flat sides)it was never voted in by the group-that was up until i left the rams for 2006-as for if it was voted in for this year -i do not know,i haven't even read the rules for 2006-i guess the best thing to do is to find the minutes from the meeting that this was approved,i can tell you it has to be after nov 2005-all this needs to be straightened out ,if we are going by rams rules at the rock for 2007-i just ran into the same problem at sfcr-techman said i could run aftermarket heads, rules say no-who do ya go by-that problem has been resolved,no aftermarket heads:confused:

hey bad bob your choice

What is the big deal about this, does it really matter what the rearend is out of its not like a ford rearend is going to make you faster than if you had a chevy just like the flat sides

ABSOLUTELY!

It all comes down to one fact.... People are going to try and stretch the rules as much as they can until somebody says - STOP. As I've stated before this is a simply matter of people trying to take advantage of a situation. Remember: If it does not say you can do it then it is considered to be STOCK! And Chevy never carried any Ford rearends to use.

Bob, the Franklin, is too wide; therefore not stock appearing.. You have to get one from a midget, or a sprint to keep it inside the wheel wells.;) But seriously, it is illegal, and wont be allowed at Fredericktown. It is IMHO that the person shouldnt be allowed RAMS points since the infraction occured until its removed..P.S. If you need a rear Bob let me know. 573 783 5221

Rules that mention rear ends:

19. Locked rear ends allowed

20. Weight jacks allowed. Car or truck must use same type suspention that it came out with.....OK will stop here!

This rule says nothing to the fact that you must use chevy to chevy and ford to ford what it says is that you must use leaf spring if it came out with or coil spring if it came out with. These are the "TYPES" of suspensions. And its not that I agree or disagree, this is the rule!

We have the same problem with a certain dual shock set up! And I would say I think that is illeagal but the rule was stated that it just had to be the same "TYPE" of suspention.

My oppinion there are real big gaps in the rules and these rule need to be gone through and cleared up on these matters. So for now these people are leagal.

And just for the record all three of our cars have ford rear ends in our ford cars.
Tony, conventional and strut are different TYPES, of shock absorbing devices. ;)

Its alot cheaper to put in a rear end that you already have than to go out and buy gears and pay someone to install them. So like I said what does it matter. Maybe its a cost reason.

If Fredericktown is running Rams rules it would be legal !!

You are correct as the Rams rules read at this time...
However, (and there is always a however) should
Fredericktown Raceway adopt a rule against it, track
rules will supercede Rams rules...The Rams could vote
to not run at FR, much like they did to Doe Run.....
But really, all this is a mute point at this time...FR isn't
even open yet...WORRY ABOUT IT IF & WHEN IT OPENS

At this point, the only thing I am concerned with is seeing
John Miller riding in and announcing from Ashley's truck!!!

The only reason this is a concern to speak of is because it is reading something into the rules that isn't there. It just opens things up to allow one thing right after another. That's why the it is so very, very important that everyone realizes that if it does not specify some sort of variation or modification from stock in the rules it is deemed to be stock. And they way I read it and the other people associated with the RAMS reads it down here (including the guy who will probably continue to be the tech guy) is it would not be allowed at Fredericktown. So you see why I would like to have it addressed more thoroughly.
