Ford rearends under Chevy trucks are illegal

Why would Mel be involved from what I see all the complaining has been done hear and amung ourselves. Correct? But here is the deal the RAMS class was suppost to be a class that the every day hard working person could get into and we are loosing that. This will kill this class! I beleive this is the reason everyone is starting to complain, they don't want to loose this class. Look at the cost of engines now and there are people using iron duke heads, and now Ford Racing Performance Parts are producing a big bare casting competition aluminum head that has an official ford stap on it, how far are we going to go? And I don't see a "all ford show" I seen alot of trucks the last couple of weeks and they were running up front and seen a couple heat races won by a chevy!

And I do not believe that Jim won his heat races because he has a ford rear end in his truck!

So what the RAMS need is for everyone to stop bending or playing stupid with the rule! Because this is what is causing all the grief.
Thats the reason I used the Ford rearend because it was cheaper. I could of gone out and bought new ones and paid someone to put them in so instead I used the one we had sitting around the shop , it had the right gears , it was free , it was legal to the rules , and if I need to change gears it will be alot cheaper so what is so wrong with what I did. It only makes sence. There has been people complaining to Mel not just on here. I have been working hard on my truck trying to get the handeling set up. I have been making little changes here and there it has nothing to do with a Ford rear end. There is no one bending the rules or playing stupid (it is legal)

I was going to stay out of this since I am no longer involved with the Rams. When the mini-stock class first came to this area in 2000 it was designed to be an inexpensive class that would be affordable to the average working person. And yes I was a Rams member for 3 or 4 years in the beginning. My brother Steve brought the mini stock class to this area from Denver and built the # 90 mini stock (Nissan SS) for around a $1000 and won several races with this truck in 2000 at Doe Run/ Farmington. When these cars /trucks rules were first drawn up everyone for some reason were against a 9" rearend. I personnally have pushed to have 9" rearends for the pure reason of being cheaper to find the right gear. Lisa and Myself were at the meeting in Arnold that was supposably several rules were voted on without a ballot and I DO NOT remember the 9" rearends being voted in or even talked about..... I personally would like to see the 9" allowed in all cars/trucks but I would have to say now without voting that it is still illegal and the other issue of 2 shocks on 1 corner is also illegal. A shock or a strut are the same thing...........JMO Kenny

Thats the thing about it, How can you say something is illegal when the rules say nothing about it period. If years ago it did thats fine but this is now.

Plus..the ford rear ends are stronger..and wont throw an axle out..like some of the others do...safety issue as well.

I've stayed out of this until this guy mouthed off, NO IT"S NOT LEGAL!! IT'S OBVIOUS YOU'RE CHEATING AND YOU GOT CAUGHT. I HOPE YOU GET BUSTED FOR YOUR ARROGANTS.

DO YOU REALLY WANT THIS?

Should we reduce the class to a 3 or 4 car field!

I am not sure Joe wants this any more than any of the rest of us.
17 cars the other night was awesome. 3 or 4 would be as boring as the creat late model class. The race would be over in 3 minuets without any action...

"If you want to go faster, step up to street stock or B-Mod classes".

You will be so busy replacing the sheet metal and bending your frame back strait you won't have the money to buy exotic parts for your engine.

This is a training ground for future drivers and a retirement hobby for all of us old guys. Up to this point I have had the time of my life watching all of you guys race. The team cars we run have stired up much interst in the class from all over the midwest..( Not because of our finnishes, but how do they get all of those cars in just one trailer) Now other folks are looking at the class.. What are they thinking?

GROWING PAINS. MAYBE:

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but if we are going to turn this into

"He who has the most money goes the fastest"

there is a bunch of us who will not be able to play and some who just don't want to..
Everybody seems to be friends in this class and racing together is a great way to make lasting friendships.
Everyone who I have met has treated me fantastic.
Any help or assistance we have needed has been givin without hesitation.
If we need to change the rules or who enforces them, lets do it amongst our selves without brodcasting it to the world.
Just smile and tell every one you see how great it is to run a
RAMS MINI STOCK.

That's how Tony got me hooked...
I'm gona have a talk with him about that!!!!

Everyone tries to read something into the rules every year. Without the "golden rule” If not mentioned in these rules it must be stock then our rules do not have enough detail. With it in our rules they are pretty darn good. Almost every one who voted on the rules at the end of 04 did not even realize they voted on a set of rules without this rule included. But guess what, the rule is not there and has not been there for two years, the rules are frozen, Jim's Ford rearend is legal and Joe is correct in ruling that way because that is how this years rules are written. Right or wrong that is the way it is. Every one knows I try to do things as cheap as possible because that is the only way I can race so I wish that rule was still in effect but unfortunately it is not.

It's easy to see that Joe would like an open 4 cyl class. In his own words Weight, Tires, Clutch, Carb.

Ron, I can guarentee you that will never happen. Just like Uncle Ed stated, there were 17 vehicles there racing the other night, don't risk that just to have an open class.

So many people have fought to keep this class from getting out of hand and rightfully so. Right now it's still possible to put together a vehicle that will be very competitive with a decent amount of money and the proper care and handling. But you open it up like that and this class is done.

I am with UNCLE ED

Just starting to build my minniestock an the cost is riseing already for the regulair stuff , wheels 5 $463 , poprivit gun & rivits $ 60 + ,holley 5oo c f m $229.95 ,rollcage $189.99 ,steering kit &360 quick release $5.00 , air gauge $19.95 plus shipping. AN thats just for starters , so if the powers that be make this a open class you can count me OUT. WHEN YOU TURN RIGHT TO GO FEFT THATS RACING!

Thats just like the racing shock that is not cheating thats smart and cheaper. But they were complaining about that.

No Jim it is not, but if we start letting anything go that is not in the rules we will. Cut me a break I am one of the few on here saying it is legal. And I think it should be legal to keep the costs down.

Jack that is why all of this is stupid some people think that it will make you faster, and im sure the reason its not in the rules is because its your choice put in what you want. Its not a performance item, but it is nice to have the option to run the ford if your going to change gears.

Pricing us out of the game....

It's not the rear end that will price us out of the game...

I think it is the ability to use non standard parts to fine tune the cars or trucks that will eventually kill the class.

When you find 10 little things that will help your brand of race car get around the track better your doing what you should. Squeak all you can out of your combination within the rule book...
Don't think for one minuet that the NASCAR guys would run for 100 miles if a Chevy read end had to be under any of the Monte Carlos.
So NASCAR gave them a spec for the axle.

If anything a 9" ford uses about 15% more power to turn and weights more. This is only an advantage if you can't find a gear and trans combo that will work and it is killing your combination, but now add the big head that everyone can't afford and the 15% is no problem.

Wa La "You have a bullet"

I am a tried and true Chevy man.

I have a Chevy Powered Altered at home and my father was a factory Drag racer for Chevrolet.

He would be rolling over in his grave if he saw his grand son (Micheal Albietz) racing the very brand he competed so hard against in the 60's.

Until this Dirt racing thing invaded our house hold there was never a Ford in my drive way.

Nothing personal guys.

It was how we were brought up....

But at the time the S-trucks were so far behind I could not see starting out with such a disadvantage. With a rookie driver and such.

(Besides 3 S-Trucks won't fit in my trailer)

It broke my hart when you guys voted in the use of the Camaro.
If we had known about the use of the Pontiac Head we would have been building Camaros.

Has anyone looked at this head?

I saw Randy's head down at AMT and I could stick my closed fist in the intake port all the way to the valve.
I am lucky to get two fingers in the Ford 2300 intake port.
The cast iron 2.5 head has a similar intake runner volume to the Ford and the engine has .2 liters more displacement to start.

When we all sit down to re-vamp the rules, we need some experts to come in and help us to even it up.
It is clear to me that every body is not up to speed on who is using what and with every body scared to piss any one else off about there combination, you may as well through out the protest rule!

HINT:

When the rules say NO LIGHTENED FLYWHEELS!
It don't take a genius to listen to the drivers rev the engines up before they go out on to the track..

"If it barks like a Modified, it has a light wheel on it"

That alone makes it illegal!

Stop trying to give yourself away and just idle up to the track real sneaky like..... SHOOOSH

The bad thing about the beginners class is beginners aren't able to tell if someone is cheating or not, experience goes a long way...

I am listening....

I have been there and done that in the engine department from Briggs and Strattons to Blown big block Chevy's.

I know what I am hearing.....

But I am the new guy here..

And I am enjoying this from the back of the pack...

You can bet we will be at the rules meeting to listen to what they are saying.

A show of strength will decide the next set of rules.

The rules are for everyone, not just a few who can't afford the good stuff!

;) ;) ;)

If someone has found a loop hole, use it!

Don't be pissed off when it gets voted down next time around.

NOW SHUT UP UNCLE ED AND LETS GO RACING!

There: I said it for you.....
