JYI new management

Running a track is extremely hard work. It is like having a second full time job. My dad ran Greenville for three years and he was at the track 7 days a week. There was always something that needed to be done.

If the track keeper is good, the four wheelers will not hurt the surface. It may make tire selection a little different if the track takes on a lot of rubber.
At Tulsa the four wheelers and mini sprints do not effect the kart racing.

Whoever runs the track, good luck. It is a ton of work. I hope to make it down to race sometime.

i worked for rodney about 4 years ago at the track and he treated everyone that worked for him out there GREAT! rodney is the one that did almost all the dozer work that made that track to begin with! when i worked there we had 40 to 60 karts a week. as far as the 4-wheelers running on it, they did it at duquoin and the tracked seemed to hold up. i'm not knocking the job jay and joann did, because they are really good people, i just don't think u should knock rodney because he did an excellent job at running the track too! larry klausing

What Are You Talking About??!!??

Old management walk off

I can't understand why you would say that the old management walked off when I spoke with Jo Ann personally at the banquet and she told me that they were running the track next season. I don't see it as them walking off....sounds more like they were squeezed out. And why run 4 wheelers on a beautiful track. Who will take care of repairing the damage those things cause? The one's running the 4 wheelers or the current management? Won't that get old after awhile? Is that the reason for saying only racing twice a month? It would take that long to repair the damage the 4 wheelers caused? As far as some commenting about having a one set of tires rule....people run the tires they feel more comfortable with running. We ran Maxxis this season at JYI and we hardly had to do anything with them but clean them and we were still competitive...not bad considering we won 8 races. This whole thing does not sound like a win-win situation, especially when it appears the decision was already made about the track prior to asking people's opinions....seems as though the only winners here would be the Belleville track.

Thanks scorer@jyi. . .

. . .for letting everyone know that management didn't just walk off. I didn't really believe that when I heard it anyway. My son is the one that actually races and I just talked to him about the changes possibly being made at JYI, he is very disappointed, especially knowing that now 4-wheelers would be racing on a kart track, a very well maintained kart track. How can anyone really want a kart track shared with 4 wheelers. I can't believe that both can be ran on the same track. If the new management is really wanting a 4 wheeler and kart track, build a track for the 4 wheelers and leave the kart track as is, might be more sensible in the end.
Well, atleast Bedrock is now thinking of running on Saturday's. That just might solve the problem. We will miss the old management at JYI!

Jyi

I have enjoyed running at JYI, the track was run well when Rodney was running it and the last couple years also when he did not. We do not know all the factors in his decision and Rodney does not owe any of us an explanation of why he is doing something different with his property. As far as the 4 wheelers they will not do anymore damage to the track that the outlaws do. Yes we race at JYI and can give our opinions on what we would like but when it comes down to it we do not own the track or property it sits on.

Jyi

Yes he did ask for our opinions on changes for the track and we have given them but that does not keep him from doing what he wants with the track when we are not racing on it. The kart counts that JYI and Bedrock have been getting of late do not warrant a kart only track so if it is karts and 4 wheelers every other week to make things work than so be it. If JYI was getting 60 karts a week like it use to than I bet this wouldn't be an issue. It still comes down to the fact he owns the track he asked our opinion we gave it to him and he made his decision.

Jyi

From what I've heard the track was still getting by fine. If its huge profits the tracks looking for, thier in the wrong business.
If you want more people to come out, maybe advertise a little, just throw out some flyers or posters here and there . I never even heard of these tracks till last year, because nobody tells anybody. Its almost like they want to keep them a secret to themselves. Come on people lets spread the word.
Thanks, Mike

So far it's been a lot of talking out the side of the mouth. Plain speaking is just so much more appreciated than a whole lot of hot air mixed with **. Point being is that people do enjoy racing every week as well as for the points. If people were racing for the money only, I wasn't aware that racing at JYI and Bedrock and Belle Rive and winning is a supplement to an income. As far as the track goes, sure Rodney is going to do with it whatever he is going to do. He should have just said so in the first place instead of asking for opionions that he doesn't seem to give two hoots about and then others can decide where they want to race next season.

Duquoin vs JYI

i worked for rodney about 4 years ago at the track and he treated everyone that worked for him out there GREAT! rodney is the one that did almost all the dozer work that made that track to begin with! when i worked there we had 40 to 60 karts a week. as far as the 4-wheelers running on it, they did it at duquoin and the tracked seemed to hold up. i'm not knocking the job jay and joann did, because they are really good people, i just don't think u should knock rodney because he did an excellent job at running the track too! larry klausing

Any one that raced at Duquoin, can remember the big expensive machinery in the building. They could till up the track, water it, then pack it down, and be ready to race in 45 minutes. So 4 wheelers racing there made no difference. Besides, they ran after the karts were finished.
I am sure Rodney will do the best he can to put on a good weekly show, no matter what he plans to have race. If, however, they are going to race karts every other week, then perhaps Bedrock might be interested in racing on the other Sat. nights. This would give both tracks the option of having as many karters at thier tracks every week, instead of fighting over the price of gas...etc as to which track they want to race.
Just a thought, Frank

i only been to watch karts at duquoin once, and they didn't run 4-wheelers that day. i was going by what i heard. watch out paul, rodney might buy some of that big exspensive equipment your talking about!

I told you people Nace is going to run maybe 3 times. Sam White owns the track he has a four wheeler club that has rally in spring and fall. They get 300-500 riders he has wanted to do this race on his track for 6yrs they are not going to hurt it. Sam help us build this track. Jay got mad over this. Money is by far not issue. Come on people 20-30 karts and some of you think your fast what a joke. Im not going to run this track there is group that help 2yrs ago. They only want to run every other week so if any of you fast karters want the other weeks step up to the plate. And to jyi lap counter you ****!

I've got an idea why don't i bend u over my knee and spank u Rodney for being bad and not running the track properly! its all your fault:eek: Im not playing with u anymore and im going home.

I love to get up and come to work and read this stuff it's better than football!

I could be wrong but the last few years the JY1 kart count has dropped off alot. So only running two weeks a month would be great! That way i could start running there again.

As far as Bedrock going to Saturdays that would be stupid they have a good thing going so why screw it up.

I have an idea let's have a ROYAL RUMBLE in the enfield at JY1 and the winner gets to call the shots and how the track should be run!

ben

bring your royal rumble to the infield at bedrock we can call it mud wrestling in the lake. your right about these postings a lot better than arm chair quarterbacking on sunday. or watching the cards give it away.:D

Ben, did you say you want to spank Rodney? Now you've gone to far.:D

As far as the ROYAL RUMBLE, It's on like Donkey Kong.

I've said this many times, we should all support our local tracks. It's easy to criticize the people who put hours upon hours into track preparation, concessions, cleaning, etc. It's easy to sit back and critisize when it's not your time or your money. The thing is, kart counts have to come up. I know Bedrock dropped 30 karts by the end of the year and JYI was struggling to get karts as well. It sounds like JYI is just trying to find a way to get more racers and more people in the stands. There's nothing wrong with that.

Most people believe the tracks are making tons of money and the track owners have huge profits. If only you knew. That's why there are only 2 kart track owners in the local area and nobodies rushing to buy them out. All I can say is, support the tracks around here, because we have beautiful local tracks with hard working owners/crews and without them nobody is on here talking about local kart racing.

JEracersdad, I agree advertising is a good idea. Advertising is not cheap, but it's a good idea. Racers can help out with advertising more than anything. The last few big races we've gone too, I've told several racers about Bedrock and Coulterville. Word of mouth seems to be a great source of advertising. We recruited 4 karts from West Central Illinois for the Oct 28th race at Bedrock. Not sure what classes, but that's 4 more karts. What I'm getting at is racers will attract other racers by showing their support for the tracks whether that be by word of mouth or internet posts.

Ideals....

just afew ideals.... Leave Jyi the way it is, You have four wheel trails right beside the go-kart track. Why not take a little time and work and make it race ready. Then you could have your peaple run those races every other weekend and we could race every weekend on the kart track. You would draw a bigger crowd for both races. We all like KART racing and QUAD racing. Get bored with one,go watch the other. Want to learn about one, go watch them. You could also build a mud pit and could have time races getting tru it. Alot of oppurtunity here, and also would make everyone happy. SORRY not everyone, always gonna have bad seed in the bunch. lol Its alot more fun seeing 4-wheelers making jumps than seeing them run in circles. Maybe you could build a road course for the Karts if my suggestion aren't to your liking. Or maybe Bedrock or Bellerive is looking better all the time. SEE YOU ALL NEXT YEAR
