Mcs Rules Meeting

From what I'm told, everything is on the table. With the exception of aluminum heads and 4 bbls on B-Mods...lol

Does any one remember the modified sportsman cars from SFCR about 10 to 12 years ago they were pretty close to what we all call sportsman cars now, everyone started saying lets change a few rules and the car count will go up, they allowed 3 links, then 4 bbl carbs and floaters then aluminum intakes, diff. tires, etc, etc , etc, and other tracks followed suit and the next thing you know they were 1 step below a late model, they even tried combining the two classes for a couple of seasons and if anyone is around there now we all know what the end result was, there no longer is a class there to support these cars. are we destined to repeat the same mistake over. if you want all the fancy stuff move up a class, and if you keep a good affordible, entry level class new racers will always be there, as it is most people can't afford to start out in a sportsman now. I will be at the meeting sun. to talk to Mel

GothicRose, MCS has an entry level class now and it is the mini stock class. The mini stock class is as affordable as you can get when it comes to an entry level class. They are now a full-time class in 2005 after being a part-time class last season.

Yes and I am glad to hear it, but the sportsman class is getting too pricey for many people to consider, if a rule change is for safety or for better parts that does not cost more than OEM parts, that does not give an advantage speed wise than I am all for, such as floater rear ends, or tubular upper control arms. But adjustable custom built rear suspension are going a bit for, you might as well take the fenders off and call it a mod. I moved up to a mod last year after racing street stocks for 7 years, it cost less had better pay out and competition was a lot closer, So why is the B Mod class getting larger and the sportsman count dropping, because given the cost wise, it cost less to start out in B Mod than to buy a competitive sportsman. The same problem is going on at almost any track in the area. Weight infraction is the best solution to allowing other types of sportsman cars to race there [PEVELY CARS] this seems to be what every body is after, a once in awhile driver that may show up if his home track rains out. Take care of what if you have, and in the end they will take care of you.

Last year Mel had an average of 8 cars to take care of him in the street stocks wouldn't it be a good idea to try to change the rules to maybe pickup a few more cars. After all Jim you went to the Modified division, street stocks should be of little interest to you now.

I still have a lot of friends who still race in that class and I talk to them on a regular basis and know how most them feel about the class even if they don't openly voice their opinion to Mel they still talk to each other, and secondly the street stock class made a good spring board for drivers to get the experience needed to drive in the modifieds, or Late models, I would hate to think what it would be like to have half the B Mod drivers out there as rookies. You have to levels of classes for the drivers to move thru that is why each level of racing gets better, because the drivers get experience in lower classes before moving up, and everyone knows that street stocks are the hardest cars to drive, heavy cars small tires, and 400 hp makes for a hand full on the track, You get the experience needed, if they allow the cars to be so simular, where does the levels of experience come from. I have been racing long enough to have seen this in past, at other tracks, if Mel wants his track to grow and prosper stick to what works, rule changes are usually bad things unless related to safety, a change usually makes a couple of people happy and a lot of people sore, write your rules and stick by them, The car count when I was there seem to be about 12-14 each night, but a lot of cars quit coming or only came ocasionaly because they could not afford to run the class competitively. Over last 2 years half a dozen drivers moved up to mods and no one new moved in to take their place, I am thinking of the track and its future it is a good facility and a fun place to race, and that is what it is all about is having fun, very few of us will ever get rich or famous at this.

Floater Rearend, Tube A-arms Are No Speed Secret. Just Safety And Convenience. 3-link Suspension Is A Very Affordable Upgrade. Definitely Not Going To Price Anyone Out Of Racing Allowing 3-links.

Guys Who Run There Now And Stay Under The Current Rules Even If Mel Allows Some Changes Will Not Be Out Classed. None Of The Above Mentioned Is A Sure Ticket To The Checkered Flag.

Mel Said At The Godfrey Meeting That If The Sportsman Count Doesn't Change, They Will Be Eliminated. So Stay With What They Have Now And That Will Probably Be The Outcome. 8-10 Cars Doesn't Justify Having The Class.

The 2005 MCS rules should be posted by Friday....at least that's the goal. Mel just opened up the meeting for "discussion" amongst the drivers and crews. There were definitely some street stock drivers who had their "OPINIONS" (to put it nicely). I can think of one drive in particular that didn't want to open anything up (which would allow for more cars to show up now and then...and maybe not on a weekly basis to being with, but that's a start). There were several drivers there who seemed to be very open minded to "opening up" the rules, but like I said, there was ONE who seemed to be DEAD SET against it. Not sure why...perhaps he is a little "scared" of the competition. From the way it sounded, I don't think Mel is gonna allow the 3-link, but the tubular A-arms will probably be a go. There was also some talk about a change in the tire rule. Like I said, Mel is gonna get the 2005 rules to Trashdog ASAP and they should be posted soon, so keep your eyes on the lookout.

I've had a couple of people contact me about the MCS poster calendars we had available at the meeting. They can still be purchased by contacting GARY at (573) 883-2900 and letting him know ASAP. They make great Christmas gifts for racers and fans alike for only $2.50.

No, no, no, Only things even up for debate were hard tires on the rear, A's not McCreary's, and spoilers so the crowd could tell the difference. He wouldn't even discuss bert's, which is the only reason I went.
Yea, I guess if I won every night against 8 cars I wouldn't want the rules to conform to every other track in the area either. That person should go run a bomber if he's so dead set on stock components. It doesn't matter anyway, If they don't completely open the rules up, which he's not, they will never get any sportsman and they will be canceled. It's kind of ironic to hear mel talk about cost effectiveness and not wanting them to look like late models when he's the one that took it to that level, personally, aluminum bodies were never legal until he showed up at Godfrey with one.

I like the idea of hard tires and spoilers for the B-Mod guys!

I think the common fans need to see some sort of a physical difference to the cars so that they feel informed.

I think if there were any drivers from other tracks coming and saying mel if you do this we will run here every week. You would have seen more things on the table. As it was the only one I saw show up from anywhere else was Jeff Le Beube and he did his best to change things. One person wasn't enough.

Being the proud owner of $600 worth of slicks I purchased for Lebanon just in time for them to go to dirt, I just about had a heart attack when I saw the comment about the American Racer tires. :)

Requiring Hoosier A's on the rear sounds good to me and a spoiler sounds like a good idea so the fans can see the difference.

I like Mel putting hard tires on the back of the b-mods. Instead of buying a tire a week. I can probably buy a tire a month. I also like putting a spoiler on the back it really makes the modifieds look better. My cars always handled better with a spoiler.

Mel has decided on the "B" Mods that A tires on the rear manditory, American Racers are legal(No Grooving but Sipping allowed) to run on the rear also. No adjustable metering plate on the carbs.

No spoilers :(

Further decisions will follow later in the week.

Mel is also seeking track sponsers for the 2005 racing season. If interested call Mel at 314-409-5655
