Just a reminder to everyone... The modified car count as a whole was down a most tracks. The tire rule will only help even out the playing field and help the class. I personally can't afford to bolt on new tires every week. So I'm for a tire rule A's & H's... And If you don't buy your own tires then don't comment on the subject... Rick Stevenson

i got one question why would they want to do away with tires why dont they start with the fancy high dollar heads they should have stayed with a normal twenty three degree heads i dont believe its a tire issue . they need to do somethin about the engines ..they would have drivers that may actually have a chance to compete . the engines are way out of hand ... this is just my opinion . and this is the reason alot of x mod racers i know have quit.... just a on looker from the stands point of view ..

finally some one who knows what there talking about. Put a motor rule if you want to save money because you still cant beat the guys who have $20,000 doller motors just by putting just A's and H's

This is just these tracks trying to do something to save the racer some money.. The UMP rules are still the same and tracks that are UMP can't change the motor rules for this class.

Keep this discussion on subject!

Mr.Dearing,

Correct me if I'm wrong(and I don't believe I am) by the UMP tire rule for Mods states the tire rule is Emod D A H. Now if these tracks were allowed to change the rule as they see fit(as you say to save the drivers money) then why are they not allowed to change the motor rules as they see fit??? If you want to stay on topic then answer that. Your original post did say "to save the drivers money". If it's only about saving drivers money why have an issue with any other topic when it includes saving money?

The UMP Late Model tire rule is LM20, LM30 and LM40. Tracks in this area are LM20 and LM40 only. UMP rules are you have to use these tires only. It doesn't specify tracks must allow ALL of them.

Don't get all hot under the collar since eliminating the D tire will cut out some of YOUR profits.

I do understand that the main topic was the tire issue, but the supporting idea behind that was saving money. All I'm saying if done correctly this shouldn't cost the driver anymore money then having an IMCA type rule with a spec tire such as the G60. I would be completely supportive to a spec tire rule as long as it were a good tire. But in the end it won't save anyone anymore money by doing that either. You will still have racers that are willing to put new rubber on the car everytime they enter the track(and prep accordingly). How in the world does that save money?????? Karts have tried for years to do this and it doesn't work, plain and simple.

Contrary to what you are saying, most every driver I've talked to that races a modified two nights a week say that eliminating the "D" tire will save them at least $1,000 over the season in tires.

If that's the case Jimmy then why couldn't they make their own motor rules if it doesn't go beyond the rules of UMP?

Probably because then a track would be limiting themselves to only the cars that race at their track only...

Your talking apples and oranges here. Limiting the tire choice to 2 of the 3 tires approved by UMP is far different than altering an engine rule.

The money factor really only places a small part in what I'm upset about. For the most part it is the Emod A. To be honest I'll just have my customers on all H's as long as they can get the stagger they need. I would have no problem, and I mean no problem, if they would make an Emod 26.5 H. But in the end they don't.

Fair enough, maybe I am. The last thing you want is to do that with the car counts we are already seeing. If you have time give me a call 618-402-4145, we could have a good conversation.

make a spec head rule with no roller camshafts .. you want to save money .. no eighteen degree heads no thirteen degree heads no ffifteen degree heads no jessell or shaft rockers ..

face it the cost of the engines has gone way to far over board .. a racer on a budget cant afford to compete so they just stay home .. they let these engines keep going its just gonna get worse.. only my opinion upon watching races and listening to other racers ..

I don't understand how it will save any money. Durring a season I have never had to buy more than 2 tires for any corner of the car exept the right rear. I was getting 4-5 nights out of my Ds without any change in performance. If I bolted an A on it would only work good 1 time, sometimes it wouldn't even make it though a few restarts. This tire rule would just make illegal tire preparing a must.

i think that limiting the tire choice is going to have an effect on the racing..if you have guys on different tires there will be guys coming to the front and guys fading...i run a lot of d tires...id hate to be on the same tires as everybody else all the time...some people are able to make d's last and run well with them...if you don't like'em don't run them

amen!! jdearing u hit the nail on the head!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i agree that that there is a money spending problem in tires, but the real spending problem is under the hoods. you cant tell people how to waste, i mean spend their money, but if i had a modified, i would much rather race with guys spending $20k+ on tires, than guys with $20k+ motors.

1 mower are you serious??? Come on!!! It SAVES money. It makes the tires last longer. Get a clue before you post something like that and you are also more than welcome to call and get informed as well. Matter of fact everyone is.
