Belle-Clair Speedway Statement & Revised Schedule for Belle-Clair Promotions

I tried to write something yesterday about what BC meant to me & my family but was too down to do it. I agree with Mike M-by the way a class act who last yr gave me a shirt right off his back. My fondest memories of my dad where the nights we spent @ BC back in the late 50's & early 60's. I was gone for a long time but started back about 5 yrs ago full time & have when I could brought friends with me. I drive 45 min to get there & back with TC only 15 min away. Sure I go to TC for big races, but when have the chance go to BC. Thanks to Don & his crew who the last 3 years have fought ungodly weather to keep the old girl going & hope like the rest that the board comes to their senses & works w/Don. & to Dirthound I say shame on you. Sure the track food isn't anything to rave about but concessions are a huge part of keeping tracks open & to not care enough about racing to do that is a shame.

Dirthound was referring to the fair getting almost all the $$$ from concession sales which is the main reason Don can't make it work there.

Track was like Godfrey. Small but everyone knew each other and it provided alot of classy shows. Since Don took over ive gone there as much as i could and could see a huge improvement than was before. Don is the man to run the show. The Fairboard is dropping the ball big time by not letting him get concessions to make a go of it. Especially since this has been one of the worst years i can think of for rainouts. You cant make it with stuff like that happening. Tri city has not one thing to do witht the track closing. It supported itself and did well on week to week shows as well and the big shows. My god i still remmber The Talker guy(truly missed!) rambling while the races where on. I truly hope someone can get it going from the Fairboard. But let Don handle the track operations! He is the man to do it! Just circumstances are playing an evil hand here and it sucks. I feel as bad as the day Godfrey went byebye. Man that hurt

jim:
thanks for sitting me straight & sorry dirthound, it didn't sound like something you would say, but just couldn't let it go by.

Here is something will help get the word to the Fair Board. Don't buy beer during the remaining two events. That will take money away from the Fair Board. Do eat the food.

Some more to think about. Write letters to the News Democrat in the Sound off section expressing your wanting the racing to continue at Belle Clair.

has anybody heard there wanting a new expo hall built there.and they want it built where the track sits? im not saying that's whats going on.just asking if anybody else knows anything about it

I had heard that years ago but not recently.

Matt Mevert Racing would like to thank Don and his crew for their hard work and dedication to the sport of racing over the years and appreciate the efforts made to keep the track open. Hopefully a fair and equitable agreement can be reached to continue the tradition of racing at BCS.

There is a 800 pound gorilla sitting in the corner of this thread. And I feel compelled to comment on it.
Neither STLracing's Administrator or the owners of T-City have commented on, or shown any regret for, the demise of Belle-Clair Speedway.

I love the racing at Belle-Clair and go every chance I get... I don't want Belle-Clair to close.. That is just a stupid comment. I run a racing website. I promote racing at all tracks in the area.

Yes, I go to Tri-City on Fridays because I'm the track photographer there and have a contract with them.. Just like I do with I-55 on Saturdays (which is the reason I go there every Saturday).

Fair enough, Jimmy. I was just having (stupid?*) curiosity as to why no comment and only after I asked did you made your comment that you love BC and don't want it to close. I'm sure this is the way you truly feel. However, having a contract with given track, even if you don't feel it, or want to remain completely neutral, there has to be a touch of loyalty to that track. We must take into account we who love/eat/sleep/live for auto racing. When something is a passion, well, we get a bit passionate.

*Stupid, really? Your better than that.

It is a stupid comment to make.. You obviously don't know me very well to say something like that. You just assume because I go to Tri-City on Friday's that I dislike Belle-Clair. You certainly didn't bother to try and ask me the reasons behind that, you just starting assuming things.

Frankly, I am actually offended by the entire comment anyhow.

ya all had better pucker up an give our host a smooch whr da sun don't shine for with out stlracin we would be even more dumber than we R now...this is lenny garson n iffen this post offends some one GOOD!!!!!

Big Wheel... Don't be so quick to judge. Perhaps those you have called out have personally phoned Don? Why do you feel the need to see it posted here?

is don still going to get his percentage of the concession sales these last two events? if so I would urge everybody to spend whatever they can down there.even tho that's going to be putting more than the fairboards fair share of money in there pocket.i see it as helping put some well deserved cash in dons pocket.if hes not going to get any cut these last two races I wont buy a thing.and as far as 50/50 goes.does the fairboard get the other half?if so I will not buy any of those either.

Seems to me that the tracks that can operate outside of a fair board put on some of the best and biggest shows. The privately owned tracks have more revenue to make improvements and put more towards purses. Jmo but I feel like the highland fair board just collects a paycheck from Scott without lifting a finger and Scott abides to try to keep it going and keep this sport alive. Very sorry Belleclair, I do love watching a race there from time to time. Really hope to see you back in full swing next year.
