Street stock tech!

It's all good. And we don't because tricity mandates that we have to run Hoosiers. We can run the indys at highland. But the funds for 2 sets of wheels and tires just isn't there. We have actually never bought any new wheels.

You ever

I understand every penny counts, been there too. But used Hoosiers I would think are way more readily available than one specific street tire. I would think this because as I said before, I would go scouring junkyards in the evenings just trying to find Mastercraft Avengers for my own car. I just stopped bothering after awhile because it was mission impossible and only went "shopping" for tires when I needed some.

I would have really preferred to be on Hoosiers, at least with those tires I knew who to go ask to see if they had any decent used rubber they would part with. Not being on Hoosiers it was a matter of either 1 buy new, which wasn't in my budget or 2 race on whatever junkyard tire I could find that was of the right dimensions to get the stagger I was after and looked halfway decent on the tread. No guarantee it was going to be worth a crap on the track though, but I couldn't be choosy, I did the best with what I could find at the price I could afford.

It appears though that you are comparing new tire prices. Which kind of proves what I have said before, racers will buy the best they can afford, and new is better than used. So whatever tire is mandated, some will always buy new when they need tires, and others will have to go looking for used if thats what they can afford. Willie's was good to me too on occasion though. Apart from them I can't recall any other used tire places that were reasonable for racers, but I am sure they are out there.

Millz. I dont know what happened to my post. But do you run the white Ford? If so I know whete you can get some used tires and wheels for it
Ya that's me I run it at granite and my dad runs it at highland. We picked up a few used wheels at highland this past Saturday. We should be ok in the tire department I have been scrounging all year when I can and we should be alright for this year. But I'm always looking for sources

That's just it. We are trying to keep the money from.ruining the class and by putting us on street tires it will make it to where more people can afford the new rubber and be more competitive with out spending a $1000+ on tires

Since the tire debate has been brought up in this post, i just seen where Karls Performance in Iowa has 205/70/15 and 205/75/15 for sale and will ship. $50 plus shipping. Its hard to beat that price compared to a Hoosier.

You can get that size around here for the same cost. The only problem is they are going to be short and narrow. You won't get your 8" wide tread. With the height of the tires you will need to change gears. That's why everyone ran the 235/70R15 and 225/70R15 for stager.

And there are more places out there that you can get them. Just have to shop around. Are wissota tires legal??? Says emods only on tri city's site and others emods or street tires only.

I would think that you would know better in getting a 8" tire patch with a street tire. You would have to run a 7" rim. The street tire is working great for the I.M.C.A. hobby stocks. I mean look how this car roles over and it is on street tires. I realize the tires have nothing to do with rolling over but you get my point.

So whats wrong with only running a 7inch wide tread to get the right height? If a 7 is all you get it will help keep the class more competitive by keeping the big engine guys from having that advantage like they do now. Or am I missing something here?

I dont think anything is wrong with it but i think that the rules are way to far gone for them to switch to a street tire now. I also think they should allow us to replace the floorboards with fabricated floorboards, not the firewall but the floorboards. How many times have you went and looked at a car only to find that the floorboard just isnt useable due to rust? I.M.C.A allows the floorboard to be fabricated bit must retain the stock firewall. It would be so much easier to allow that.

Faustfan2, agree with that its more safety issue having rust out junk floors, as long as its steel floor i wouldn't see a problem there.
