It seems to me that the whole concept of the claim is flawed on so many levels. Short of implementing the auction theory above, there's nothing to keep the racers from engaging in collusion by simply refusing to claim one another. And if you did have semi-regular claims, I'm afraid it would cost racers more in the long run when they start "Chernobyl-ing" a bunch of the $1000 "junkyard" motors they'd be "forced" to run.
 
Wow! I knew this would be a popular thread but I never imagined it'd get this big. Seems I've stirred a hornet's nest.
