UMP Modified National Champion Argument...

Gilpin this Gilpin that!!! Can you explain to me why last year at Tr-State when they had a show over there and all the heavy hitters was there Gilpin packed it up and went home after his heat race that he totally got his ass handed to him?? And yes almost any driver can get 30 wins as he did last year when you mainly stick to tracks like Brownstown,In and tracks with no competition for you when you have all that money wrapped up in a car and your racing guys that have less money in their whole car as you do in your motor!! Gilpin is not all hes cracked up to be! Last year he continually ran Brownstown because he knew they would show favoritism to him! There was several nights he ran Brownstown and they didn't have enough cars to make a full field so he could get maximum points and low and behold just out of nowhere people that had never raced a car before just starting signing in so they could say it was a full field!!! These drivers in the St.Louis area are some of the best in the country if not the best in the country! Schrader and Wallace go all over this country racing and hand people their ass's at those tracks but you don't see them coming to this area and doing that!! Yes they may win a time or two here and there but they aren't walking away from anyone in this area!!

Like I said before he knows what he has to do to win the title. Those guys should go run against him and beat him over there and take the title away from him. Don't blame him for figuring out the system. And 30 wins are not that easy to get anywhere. Haters gonna hate. I really don't think he cares what you or I think of where he races at. This has always happened in UMP whether in late models or mods. The years Gary Webb won his titles he stayed at two tracks same as when Terry English won the $100,000 UMP title running at Paducah and Calvert City. They figured the system out.

He came over here and ran mod mania and got his ass handed to him here to so why go there when these guys already know they can beat him!? I'm not so sure you really have a idea of what your talking about!! He goes to Eldora in October and he's a nobody there to when these guys from this area are there!! Regardless of what you say or think I'm telling you right now there is not another part of this country that has any better modified drivers as we do right here in this area!! I go all over and I'm fortunate enough that with my job I can attend some of these other tracks and watch other drivers from around the country and im telling you not many if any would hold a candle to any of these drivers in this area!!

I only go to about 70 to 80 races a year so I probably don't know what I am talking about. I know the guys in the St.Louis area are good but so is Gilpin. Like I said before he doesn't have to run over there to win the title. He knows what he has to do to win it. Anybody can get there ass handed to them at a track they hardly ever run. Everyone that has ever raced has had there ass handed to them once or twice. The guy has to be pretty good to win the title 3 years in a row. Cherry picking or not.

I've heard you say more than once rocket79 that the ump national points don't mean shit... You used to say that all the time with the late model guys.. You have your guys that run for ump points and you have your guys that money hunt.. Everyone of those guys I mentioned above are money hunters... Gilpin is not.. There's a reason he's not... He don't run well unless it's at one of the few tracks that he runs... He's proven that.. Harrison & Poel are a great example last year during the mod summer
Nationals.. They both won a lot of races at different tracks every night.. Gilpin will stay hid in his little area... If he chooses to do that that's his choice, but he will never be in the same caliber as the guys mentioned above.. They're
Money hunters where Gilpin is not.. That's a fact!

I'm not on either side of this argument, all the guys mentioned are damn good shoes. Harrison is one of the best there's ever been hands down, and gilpin will be right up there once he's at the age mike is. Devin races around home, I don't really see what's wrong with that, it is in fact known as the "UMP weekly championship", but DG does venture out every once in a while...last year at fall nats he ran 3rd to ruhlman and westfall, dean and mevert were 4 & 5, and 2nd to mevert the second night. He went to Speedweeks this year, and hardly any of the STL guys did. Ran 2nd to Bronson, and 3rd to nick Hoffman twice at east bay, then 4th in the gator championship. Also remember him showing up mid-week last year at Belleville for summer nats. Gotta give the guy a little credit, no matter where he runs weekly, hell mikes been running highland weekly. competition? No. And there's nothing wrong with that, winnings winning. That being said, may the best man win, no matter where they race. It happens in every division, every sanction, when running for national points. Btw I'm a huge Michael long fan, and take notes every time the 24h is on track, because he lays it all out there, just don't think the DG bashing is warranted.

In 2012 Gilpin had 36 wins at 14 different tracks, in 2013 31 wins at 13 different tracks and in 2014 33 wins at 12 tracks. So he does travel a little.

Thank god there's a bunch of tracks in his neck of the woods.. You can't argue it both ways Rocket... When Melvin, English, Tudor and guys like that won national points you always said that didn't matter... Now all of a sudden it does for Gilpin.. You can't argue it both ways... Make up your mind..

Damn boys have a little respect Devin is a good guy and good racer I have left our area a bit to run some races that he has been at and he has beat some good competition including myself I'm planning a trip to his home track on Fridays mohler if anyone wants to ride along and see for themselves LOL
