What does UMP do for you?

But how much did it cost you to get that $3000 back Jim Moon? to finish that far up racing for points? Guarantee a lot more than $3000
I would of spent the same racing if there was no ump point fund

Al your are correct but as of now we don't really have a choice
Some times we need to cut the head off and start over but I see no one willing to make the commitment money wise or time wise

My point is why do we waste time on this topic no one at this time is willing to make or start a change but I agree sonething needs to change

Have any of you seen the cost of these late models? The money is there. Theres ALOT of deep pockets, even at the local tracks. The money will talk, as soon as the money wants to be heard

Even if the tracks go NON UMP.... and keep the same rules.....Is an option or I think it should be option to join and get points or not join and not get points...if they stay UMP This way racer has option... not railroaded into purchasing something that is no benefit to them and there program.

The question shouldn't be "what does UMP do for you?" but "what does UMP FAIL to do for the racer?"

Standard set of rules? On paper. But UMP doesn't show up to tech anything, they just tell the local tech guy/promoter "here's the rules for the class your track runs, tech to this standard." But UMP doesn't do anything hands on when it comes to tech, they almost exclusively rely on the local track promoter/owner to handle it. And they do. Some better than others.

Point fund? Sure. They have to have something to skim off the top from to make their dough. Without charging the racers fees for membership, and using their power/influence to mandate what tires you're going to run, then taking huge chunks of that money for themselves, there is no point fund at all. Read this and be very clear on this--UMP DOESN"T PROVIDE THE POINT FUND. The racers do. It's a redistribution of racer money either in membership fees or tire royalties to UMP (who buys tires? racers, right?) for redistribution back to the racers minus whatever cut UMP wants. Still the racers paying for it all, and then paying UMP for the privilege.

UMP has this huge organizational brand name, and they have some people up there at World Racing Group who should be looking at it and thinking about raising revenue from advertising dollars. UMP could start their own monthly magazine, catering to UMP racers, sell ads in that mag and then use that money for point fund.

UMP could use their brand to land TV deals of the summer nationals and make their own TV program on their weekly racing. One hour a week, get it on MAV TV or something, but do it right and people will watch. Turn the whole thing into a branding exercise and use the brand to raise money.

UMP could get its racers and member discounts on everything from travel to home insurance to car insurance and everything in between. But they don't put any effort into that, they just charge the members, take the tire royalty, throw a banquet and ride along.

UMP could organize trips to theme parks, a week in Florida at a deep discount for the racers, discounts at car dealers, discounts and deals all over. This is what UMP could do for the racer, that would make the membership fee worth it, but they don't.

Bottom line to me is UMP has a lot of potential to do a lot of non-racing, but still beneficial to the racer, things that they just make no effort on. But if they could show something more than a banquet, a couple trophies and a few checks for what they charge, it would go a long way to making more people WANT to be UMP rather than see them as a burden.

I go to a local gym where we do all the same kinds of workouts that the Crossfit Affiliated gyms do. Same workouts, sets, etc. Even have teams from it that go compete in the Crossfit competitions and do well. But the owner was telling me, when he was approached by the Crossfit organization when he opened, that they wanted him to pay to be "Crossfit Affiliated" and be able to put that name on the door. He laughed and said "we'll going to do the same workouts here with or without their name on the door, so what's the point? Pay you money to do what we can do without your name on the door? Thanks, but no thanks."

I think the benefit of UMP is in the WoO stuff, not UMP. If a track doesn't sanction with UMP, would they still get a WoO LM or Sprint car show? Will Lucas Oil still run at your track if you blow off UMP? Who knows how the folks at WRG would respond to a track dumping UMP. Those are big money makers for the promoters. And I really don't think, until some promoter somewhere has deep enough pockets, knowledge, skill and determination to create a successful race track that doesn't sanction with UMP that anything is going to change. I honestly think a track could do very well without UMP, but its going to take some creative thinking outside the box and good old fashioned determination to make that happen.

Another well thought out, detailed, logically astute and thought provoking contribution from this website's troll. I am just wondering how many more times you get to pop off like you have internet Tourette's syndrome before JD just eliminates you altogether.

The majority of folks on here would just like to have a polite conversation without you injecting your snide, hateful commentary about us or what we have to say in between each comment. You used to have something to say about the topic, now all you do is shoot your mouth off at the poster.

You need to get a life Fred.

Tunie; excellent post, very well thought out and right on the point.

Dirt Hound; I read your post and once in a while your right on the money.
Which equals to about 3% of your post, 70% of your post is plain BS, and 27% of your post or plain obnoxious and makes it look like you know absolutely nothing about local racing.

https://racingnews.co/2015/12/07/world-of-outlaws-cbs-sports-tv-schedule/ and as fas as tech going how are Ump going to a weekly and which weeklt show when they might have a special event to work at the whole month of june and half of july gone atleast one weekend in sept eber gone the local due tech I have stood right next to them when they do how about you tnie and been there done that who are you to judge UMP could organize trips to theme parks, a week in Florida at a deep discount for the racers, discounts at car dealers, discounts and deals all over. This is what UMP could do for the racer, that would make the membership fee worth it, but they don't. are you for real over 70 pwecent of the tracks are not UMP LIKE YOU REALLY KNOW EVERYTHING LMFAO think the benefit of UMP is in the WoO stuff, not UMP. If a track doesn't sanction with UMP, would they still get a WoO LM or Sprint car show? Will Lucas Oil still run at your track if you blow off UMP? THOSE TOURS DON'T CARE IF ITS ump or not they just want a viable working relationship with atrack that is best for the series and best for the track UMP could use their brand to land TV deals of the summer nationals and make their own TV program on their weekly racing. One hour a week, get it on MAV TV or something, but do it right and people will watch. Turn the whole thing into a branding exercise and use the brand to raise money. try dirt on dirt it works wonders seen the tv schedule live thate weeknd they ran all the summernationals were shown the world dream and any other even you might think of

ti ain;t the pockets its the logistics when you have around 10 ten tracks all running the same sanction what would happen if one track pulls out the guys running for national points will not show up now will they

what kinda benefit do you need its race not health insurance

Well if you take all ump tracks combined there are 2200 paid UMP Amod drivers... Of those drivers 20 of them might get a chance to get bigger money from the national points.... That's right at 1% ..... So who do you cater to? The 1% or the 99% I personally would choose the 99% that's a no brainier.... My numbers could be off a bit so here ya go... Let's say it's 200 drivers that are really competing for national points...that's still only 9%.....

It s called racing first youwant bigger point fund then you want more drivers getting paid which is it you are missing point if its a non UMP those teams will not show ,which would mean smaller car count for that track

Some more FYI for f40.... There are roughly 700 dirt tracks across the U.S.... Of those tracks roughly 100-105 are UMP sanctioned...... So 85% are NOT UMP sanctioned....

Here is something to ponder should the 9% have more say than the 91%.If your in the 9% you are probably an ambassador of the sport you have probably put in 91%more work time and effort into the sport you probably show up at multiple tracks per week you probably bring more crew and fans than people that race 5-10 times a year ,so who would you "cater" to if you were running a business the 9 or 91%
