Most successful bloodlines in the area

what family is the most dominate on the TRACK, other then the wallaces, i think was the question.

My question is what tracks did the Wallace's dominate ??

I would say the Seets.................

I'd have to agree with that!!

i promise you john seets has won the most championships at any given time there were a few years in a row he won championships at two tracks i would say he may have about 50 or 60 track championships easy between godfrey and granite alone

In my eyes, John Seets is one of the most successful drivers ive watched growing up. He has won many championships and an enormous amount of feature wins. A few to mention.. He was the 1994 UMP Modified National Champion, winning track championships at I-55 and St. Charles and 2nd in points at Godfrey. He was the 1989 Limited Latemodel National Champion, and the 1998 Nascar Modified Regional Point Champion. John also competed at Bullsgap among 226 of the best modifieds in the country from 26 states, competing for 12 spots to get into the Bristol race. He finished 5th in this race and did qualify to race at Bristol among the 24 starting field. John has won several track championships at Tri City and Godfrey also.

John also held the record for most UMP modified feature wins in one year, until Jimmy Owens won it his last year in a modified when he won the national championship. He only beat this record by a couple more wins.

Faust's without a doubt.
Mark and Mark's dad Bob, and Marks brothers Kenny and Alan.
Bob's brother Bill and son Billy.

But some other Highland notables.
Bargetzi, Chris and son Maurey and daughter Tammy (I think she won a championship in St. Charles)

Art Sellers and Denny.

And Dale. :)

My vote would go for the Hoffmans as the most dominant family on the track, overall. Isn't Dean working on his 23rd or 24th championship at Belle-Clair this year? (I'm being sarcastic, so all you techno-phobes need to relax.)

And Now- Nick (Darrell's son) races everything under the sun out in NC, and wins in just about everything he gets into-

Zach (Dean's son) will be making his debut next season @ Belle-Clair.

Seets

I never liked the Seets Brothers coming to town. I didn't like them just simply for the fact that they were good - I know... dumb excuse. Actually, in hindsight, GOOD is an understatement!

At the time, they weren't regulars at I-55... and when they came to town, it gave me (and whoever I was helping) the feeling of just packing up and going home (early to mid 90's).

They were "outsiders". LOL!

That just goes to show what the name can imply...

It didn't matter which one... Tommy, Jake or John... if a Seets was at the track... we pretty much knew who was going to win.

They always made it exciting... but we always knew the end result.

I can't think of any other family name or "legacy" that "ruined the night" quite like the Seets Boys did and still do on occasion!

I am not saying that any of the other people mentioned on this post are not worthy, but, if I would have to vote right now... the Seets family would have to be my pick.

I went researching on the web.............

The thing I learned this morning is............is that Highland Speedway is about the only local track with a complete listing of their past champions. Thank you to the folks at Highland!! What I like is all the champs for one class are together on a page (you don't have to search through multiple years).

It would be nice if the other local tracks would start a similar list. I-55 and Tri-City (under the Gundakers) are close.

What happens to the websites that disappear?............their stats and records are gone.

Where are the stats for area racing before computers/websites?

The next question is..........how do you find the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series online?

I went researching on the web this morning.........

.......and what little info/stats I could find was only championships. For instance......while I-55 lists complete point standings for a number of different years there is no indication of how many features say Ed Dixon won in any of the 7 years he won titles.

Highland Speedway...........

Bill Faust has 5 track championships......1971, 1972, 1975, 1979, and 1980

Mark Faust has 7 track championships and 1 UMP Late Model National championship..........1990, 1994, 1997, 1998, 2001, 2004, 2005 and the UMP title in 1998. Mark does have the most track titles at Highland.

That's 12 track and 1 National Championship for the Fausts. (There were no other Fausts listed as winning a title in any class.)

The records I've found so far (from the web/internet) for John Seets are the 1994 UMP National Modified championship. And John is only 1/16 of the Seets family that has raced and that doesn't include any of his track titles.

Ed Dixon......has 7 track championships at I-55 (that I found)........1997, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 3 UMP Late Model National Championships in 1994, 1999, and 2000.

I don't know how you can determine the winningest/most successful racer or family..........because..........

1. not everyone races the same vehicle.........how do you compare boat stats to drag racing to __________ (fill-in-the-blank)

2. there isn't a complete set of records for virtually any group in St. Louis

I am interested in everyone's ideas on:

1. what stats would you want to keep

2. how would you get the stats from even just everything after WWII (let alone before that time)

3. which stats are more important.........would number of wins (total or just features) be more important than a championship

Now the winningest husband and wife I am certain would be Vicki and Ron Flier (pronounced Fleer).

Vicki has won 11 National championships while her husband Ron has 8 National titles in the SCCA Solo (autocross) ranks.

For a while they held the most national titles for a husband and wife in all of the SCCA. Another couple did tie them with 19 and I haven't checked for a while to see if they surpassed the Fliers........I guess that means more research.

Can anyone think of another husband and wife team with more titles?

I did check the records for both Marty Smith, Sr. and Jr.

Again..........Highland has the best, most complete, and easiest to find and research stats on championships on the internet.

Marty, Sr. has 6 titles at Highland and Marty, Jr. has 2.

Obviously, this does not include anything from Belle-Clair and I'm certain Marty, Jr. has at least a title at Bellevegas (off the top of my head at the moment).

I checked some Godfrey Speedway records I have. (Champions from 1983 - 2006.......I need to work on the ones prior to 1983.)

Here's what I found so far for the Seets family:

Jake:
1983 Sportsmen
1989 Limited Late Model
1992 IMCA Modified
1993 UMP Modified

John:
1983 Modified
1987 Sportsmen
1988 Sportsmen
1996 UMP Modified
2001 UMP Modified
2002 UMP Modified

And then I have one listed as 1984 Street Stock as Jack Seets (which I'm sure is a typo on my part........but, if someone has the correct info I'd appreciate it).

That record of Highland Speedway's past champions was actually put together a few years ago on a thread on this board. All of the Highland fans contributed what they could remember and had record of then Highland Speedway added it to their website. The fans of other tracks need to do the same because I don't think most tracks keep very good records.

Mark Faust actually has more than 7 track championships, I believe he has a pair at Godfrey, one from Greenville(Bond County), and one or two at Belleville also.

Thanks for the info........I really appreciate the help.

I was going by what was easy to find/research this morning on the internet. Most tracks and surprisingly most sanctioning bodies do NOT have records of their past champions and in a lot of cases they don't have records for their past car owners champions either.

Unfortunately there is not one database anywhere for even the basic information of who won titles.

Ken Schrader won a car owner's title with ARCA.......there isn't a record of that on their site. If the information isn't collected and kept it disappears.

Thanks to everyone here on stlracing.com I'm working on collecting the information on the St. Louis racers.

I went back and checked my Godfrey champions list........again it is not complete........it has nothing prior to 1983. Since 1983 I am missing the following years.........1986, 1990, and 2003. Thanks for making me double check my work.

I can add......

1 title for Mark Faust, 2004 Late Model

1 title for B. J. Seats, 2004 B Modified

1 title for Ed Dixon, 1993 Late Model

Again, if anyone has any of the info on past champs from Alton/Godfrey/Ascot Speedway (it had several other names as well) please let me know.

I don't have records for Belle Clair or Greenville. I'll check with David Walker on Greenville and Linda Schaefer with Belle Clair to see if they can help me track down some more records.

Thanks everyone for all your help!
