Glad to hear the girl is alright that posted ealier dqcheer6 I had talked to friends there and knew they were talking about a girl also.
Sounds like the driver tried what he could in the few seconds he had to do anything. The tv news was saying last night the names of 2 men that did not make it and this morning 7:25 update on channel 5 repeated it. I will leave the names out but 1 was 51 the other 18 and both were from Duquoin (spelling?). wishing everyone the best . News is on again now 8 am about it.. everyone's thoughts and prayers are with these people. Randy

Our thoughts and prayers as well go out to everyone that was involved in the incident at Mt. Vernon last night! It is a horrible thing to try to comprehend! This was an unfortuate racing accident that we hope never happens at the tracks we're at.

We agree with everyone else in this thread ... now is the time to show support for the families of those killed, the injured, the spectators, and of course the track staff in attendance last night. An accident like that could have happened to any of us and at any track.

Thoughts & prayers,

Leigh Ann & Dave Wells

The list of names were released in the Evansville Courier. Donald Roznowski 51, and Jeff Connors 18, both of DuQuoin parished in this horrible incident. Jeff was a senior last year on our football team. The others among the injured was Carl Hartung 41, of Carbondale received major injuries, John Hartung 32, of Carbondale. John I work with at Penn Aluminum in Murphyboro. Ill try and get an update on him soon. Kevin Noble29, of Huntingburg, IN, John Marks 67 of Eldorado, and Jeff Stanley 29, of West Frankfort..

Im not in anyway agreeing with the timing of Likapimps statement. But safety should be addressed here. Whether anyone likes my statement or not, I dont care. Only the few times Ive went to Mt Vernon. I never liked the low walled embankments. They need to be higher. there needs to be a minimum requirement higher than what they have. It is kind of strange how the car did jump the wall but in any case.. This has to be changed. Most of you can just call this a Freak accident..But whos to say it wont happen the next time if something isnt done.. I knew both of the ones who parished in this incident plus a co-worker was injured also. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved. Its pretty simple to bash likapimp for what he said.. wrong timing by a couple days. But are we supposed to just sit back and do nothing. The ball needs to start rolling on how to try and stop this from happening again. NOT wait around til it happens again. I also think that Belleville's track is just as dangerous as any track around.. especially on the infield. If any car gets tangled up and heads for the infield. Its not going to be a pretty site. they need a higher wall or make them park outside the track area.. Granted Ive never heard of any incident from there yet and hope I never do. Safety should be addressed at all tracks right now. not tomorow or the next day..If NOT.. the next time it may one of youre loved ones..

Im going to try and find out how my friend/co-worker is doing and give an update on here.

DQCheer6.. Glad to know youre ok. I bet youre mom and dad hasnt quit hugging you yet..and hope youre leg isnt fractured.

What a horrible Accident. Hope I never see anything like this again. Our Thoughts and prayers go out to all involved and everyone else who was there.

Our Thoughts and Prayers go out to all involved. We have all lost something very Special from this terrible accident in the racing community/family.

The Blue family.

belleville's 3&4 turn wall is a good example. i saw a hornet punch thru that wall one night. a hornet. going 40 or so mph. hate to think what a mod or lm could do. a heavier car and going 2-3 times faster. kinda scary, when you think about it. as bad as this is, for sure, other tracks might sit up and take note. tracks/walls that were designed and built 30-50 years ago aren't enough to handle today's speeds. cars, engines, and driver's safety equipment gets updated and improved constantly.... but do the tracks themselves keep up with technology? i really wonder about that. we all need to keep all the injured and their families in our prayers right now. art.

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved in this tradgic accident and there families. Its great to see how this racing community comes together it shows alot

Very good point RaceGoddess.. I know a little over a month ago i remember seeing Eric Goetter hit the wall in between turns 1 and 2 and totally break 2 or 3 of the boards.. If he would have been going straight at it. he would have went all the way through it. something needs to be done now.

When we watch races or when Bill races himself we (I) always can be found in turn 4 at any track, so had we been there last night, who knows could've been us. Our condolenses to everyone who had been affected by this tragedy. The racing community should pull together as friends at a time like this. Something of this nature could happen anywhere in the stands or pits at anytrack. May the hearts and bodies heal for those injured.

its a sad day for racing or hearts and prayers go out to those involved may God keep them close and help them in this time of need. it was one of those freak things that you just can't explain and i hope the driver knows that. he shouldn't blame himself from what i understand there was nothing he could have done. i don't know what exactly happened i was at mcs ive never been there so couldn't tell you about safety but was it the pit stands or the grandstands? OUR SYMPATHY , PRAYERS AND HEARTS GO OUT TO ALL THAT WAS INVOLVED AND ALL THAT WITNESSED THIS TRAGGEIC ACCIDENT

accident

I want to send my toughts and prayers to all.It is just a tragic thing. It does happen more often than people think. More often than it should. It is not anyones fault. Regardless of what you may think that is why it is called a accident.I have lost a brother-in-law to a racing accident.it is just a freak accident.NO ONE knows how the families involved feel. You can't imagine how many people it affects.my brother-in-law left behind at the time 2 young children ages 2&3 they are now 20&21 and one has a 2 yr old child. They still visit the track where the accident occured.Even the 2Yr old loves racing. Do they blame the driver or the track. The driver and the track both blame them selves enough for everyone. believe me I have seen what they go through.and how they were there for our family. Our racing family is very strong. That is what will help these families make it through one of the roughest times in their lives.TIME ,LOVE,UNDERSTANDING,FRIENDS AND FAMILY That is what is need now.

Very Impressed with the way everyone acted.

Last night we were sitting about 15 feet away from where the car hit so I have visions that will be with me forever. Now that I look back on the accident what stays with me is how everyone -and I mean eveyone tried to help in any way they could. I'm at a track every weekend and always see drivers ready to square off over who bumped into who but when it the time came all drivers, spectators, track owners & officials pulled together to help the injured in any way possible. There were alot of fences mended last night and all petty differences were put to the side because fellow racers and race fans were in trouble.

When something like this happens, you tend to get your priorities straight in a hurry. We all have families that are larger than the one we were born into. Race fans and racers are dedicated to each other like no other group of people I have ever encountered.

Of course we feel deeply for all the families involved. Our thoughts a prayers are with you always.

Well put Dirt Chick

We were not at Mt. Vernon last night, but have been many times. We were all deeply affected by the news of last night's tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with all involved.

Deepest sympathy from Chad Cochran, family and crew.

Please keep us up to date on any fund raising efforts or anything else we can do to help the families.

Thanks - Teresa Cochran
