Shepp's Speedway and Guy Webb (Allstar Sprint Series)

All Ken Martin is trying to do is stop Farmington from running on Saturday nights. Farmington has held on by a wide thread ever since Ken spouted off he would have Farmington shut down LAST MAY! The plan is no weekley 410 winged sprints and him having the only game around, but it's starting to backfire on ole Ken!:D

I'm not taking part in this whole stupid pissing contest betwenn Guy and locals, but I do have a question about your little post....

What exactly is Farmington "doing" that is different than any other promoter at that track has done in the past? In my view finder, the two or three promoters before Corey actually did more promoting for the sprint cars than he does.

They didn't have this clown trying to shut them down, plain and simple!

Are you freakin' stupid or what?

If racers want to race for $1200 to win, let them go ahead. But, please explain to me why the Midwest All Stars should continue to pay $2000 to win if racers set their value so much lower.

Using your theory. Why in the heck do the All Stars schedule races at Fremont and Attica then? The drivers at these two tracks must be lowering the price they'll run for if they run a weekly show there then? You can't have it both ways.

Fremont Regular show to win = $2,500 All Stars $5,000 or more for special shows
Attica Raceway Park to win = $2,200 All Stars $5,000 or more for special shows

Shepps Speedway $1,200 to win Mid-west All Stars $2,000

Explain why it's ok for one place and not the other.

I don't know if it is true or not, but after the races at Shepp's, I was told that if he had 15-16 410's show up as was planned that he was going to make it more or less a weekly show. We all know how things get passed through the pits, so I don't know. But maybe that is where Webb felt threatened. It wasn't this one race, but the threat of a weekly event that caused him to react. Lord knows a weekly 410 show for fans to enjoy in Central Illinois would be the end of the world, especially one on Sunday night where there aren't many checks to pick-up elsewhere for 410's. It would just be tragic if guys had an extra purse per week to race for. Heck, it might even cause a few more people to put together a 410 which would in theory be even more of a field for MESS to draw from. In fact, I know one guy who has said all year, if Jacksonville and Shepp's could have winged 410 races more or less weekly within 10 miles of each other, that he was moving up to one.

I hate I missed the show at Shepp's. Haven't been able to make it yet to a race, but have seen the facility and it looks to be very nice. Steve and Stevie are good people. I'd look at this as more of a test run for the sprints. I look for a higher payout next time around. As for Guy Webb, all I have to say is his reputation will catch up to him in the end. I wish Shepp's nothing but the best and look forward to taking in some racing at the track!!

I was at shepps Sunday night and I liked what I saw. I hope that they can get sprints there again sometime. Congrats to Jimmy Hurley on the win!

Is this the same Guy Webb that calls Brad Doty "that crippled cock s*cker"? I find this all hard to believe. I'm sure a promoter of a series would never do such an thing or call people names or question their sexual preferences. Oh wait. Sure he would. I seen it all before over in Ohio. I don't know why fremont and attica book his shows. They get a free all star show about every weekend minus Clayton and Bunton. I think its funny to see Webb's reputation starting to catch up with him. :p

It appears to me we could be seeing them lots more at Jacksonville and Shepps if the drivers would tell Webb to kiss their ---. Come on drivers, this GUY is killing our sport and taking you guys down with him. Without the MESS series you would have lots more shows to run and only have to travel 2 or 3 hrs, not an all day drive for a very small increase on the winnings and the SAME start money you get around here. Heck, even people from Ohio are on here trying to open your eyes. Wake up before it's too late!

I agree Racegal29. The writing is on the wall right in front of you drivers.....This is from Kim West's post.....

We are just waiting for Webb to be done and we will add wings back to our schedule.

This will be an interesting weekend that's for sure. What will the turn out be at Farmington and then Quincy. I know where I'll be going this weekend! And I also know where I WON'T BE GOING! ;)

Dirtfan1 is one of Webb's PR, and probably John Katich with Webb telling him what to type. There was a post about this show on Hoseheads and it got locked for not one good reason! Here is some of how Webb's PR talks to fans!

we were thinking about going to see them this sunday since they are going to be at my home track but i don't know who is running with them. Does anyone else?

Support the show, but I know several fans and a couple of drivers that will not because of what was put on stlracing.com

Shepp's Speedway Would Like To Say Sorry To The Fans For The Turn Out Of The 410 Wing Sprints. We Didn't Realize Until Sunday Night That Guy Webb Had Called The Sprint Guys And Told Them Not To Run For $1200.00 Or He Would Lower His Purse For The Shows He Puts On. We Are Sorry We Just Thought It Would Have Been A Great Show For The Fans!

Thanks,
Shepp's Speedway

Quincy will be a good show...just like it was last year.

You'll see Jerrod Hull, Kaley Gharst, Tiffany Wyzard, Miranda Throckmorton, A.J.Bruns, Brad Greer, Kody Kinser and about 20-25 more. Last year Danny Smith was there and I wouldn't be surprised to see him and a few of the regular All Star drivers racing as well, after racing at Fremont Saturday.

I know there will be more than eight cars there.

MoSprint21...you're a dumb***. Why are you against racers sticking together to race for a decent purse? Maybe you should show up a Quincy. I know of a few people who'd like to meet you personally and compare points of view on the state of sprint car racing in Illinois. I'd bet Guy Webb himself would pay your way into the track, if you have the intestinal fortitude to show up.

So John, can we quote you if the car count doesn't meet your expectations? You're calling for about 30 rides to be there, right? It's great if they get that many, and I'll be the first to say so, but promised car counts from certain sources have been a little off the mark so far this year wouldn't you say?

Also, expecting someone to be fearfull of Guy is a bit of a stretch. That must be the emptiest threat ever put to words in the history of the internet.

lol thats quite an amuisng post.

As the mouthpiece you are - you are not even denying what MoSprint21 put on here - you are just trying to justify it in a roundabout way. Thats pitiful. There isn't much to justify in undercutting a show like that. I don't care what the "state" of racing is in whatever area. According to what MO wrote - which you didnt even refute! - it wasn't just a band of racers stickin together - but heeding unethical phone calls. Thats an area you likely have a lot of experience in.........or should we call it something else because you happen to enjoy it?

If it was just a matter of racers sticking together - Guy Webb never would have had to pick up the phone now would he? They just would not have showed up - which granted looks to have happened - BUT - why did Webb feel it necessary to even pick up his phone?

I hope MOSprint has more scruples than you do - and doesn't let his/her piece of mind bought of so cheaply - or take seriously the completely pathetic and hollow intimidations. If there are SOOOOO many people that want to debate/debunk MoSprint21 ----- why aren't they on here doing it?

There is much to love about the irony of life. I love the part about Webb paying someone's way. Thats probably where it begins and ends with you doesn't it? lol. Someone giving you a proper ***** slap and yanking your Chili Bowl credentials stung - so when a PIMP comes along that offers your unethical, meandering nerdy *** something of a "connection" along with a piece of mind - that was about all it took for you to whore yourself to it....to the point of becoming the right hand propaganda man for your PIMP.. Maybe I should not be so harsh towards what you call a LIVING.

um...idiot is a strong word coming from someone who supports a series that can:

A) barely get enough cars to field a single heat race;

B) puts out a schedule showing events at tracks that aren't even racing this year;

C) makes it a point to try to put a track out of business because it won't host one of its elementary events.. (St Francois county);

D) screws over track promoters (allegedly) by promising certain car counts then only have 11 cars show up...cut the purse.....not cut the cost of admission to the fans that paid their money to see a race touting certain promises....not cut the pit pass costs......

should i continue or have we established that the pot shouldn't talk smack about the kettle?

30 + cars for real? I hope all 3 of the Allstars do show up. Nothing like watching the MidWest regulars running for tow money. This whole Webb bunch has to be the most unprofessional group ever.

May be your best yet OKCFan12!! Awesome!!

It is a great practice for a self-exclaimed "Media Professional" to be calling people names on an internet site....I think it is time for Katich to take the long 8 block walk and check himself into the VA....

I have met Ken Martin and talked to him about some money he owed me. That went over not to good for me. Then he complained he had to pay a fee to race, I told him the Short Track Nationals in Little Rock charge a fee and he said 360 racing was just over powered go carts. Plus, I'm suppose to trust him to pay my way in after stealing my money from a few years ago at his All-Star show in Illinois.

Oh yea, I remember Ken Martin. Wasn't he "the guy" a couple years ago that wanted us to believe that all the Pa. tracks agreed to cancel a perfectly good race weekend so that all the posse drivers could drive all the way to Lawrenceburg to challenge 6, yes SIX, All Stars in some kind of showdown ? Thats good stuff right there ! I miss old Ken, "that guy" could tell some stories.

That's funny. I bet he loves the 360's that come to fill in his shows when allstars are away from the 410 hot spots. This deal keeps lookin' ****tier the longer it goes.

I'll continue to support the allstar shows that I can go to because the drivers on tour, but I think it's pretty obvious that a change needs to happen at the top.

I hope that we get at least 3 tracks running winged 410 sprints real soon and all the CRAP will go away!

You are not only one person, Mark. I will not attend either.
Agreed!! Everyone knows how I feel about him. I still have my wristband from Belleville Mr. Webb!!! Im waiting to shove it up your arse!!! You are good to Tim Montgomery is the only reason your trailer was nt set on fire while it sat in Fredericktown. Im waiting....Thats a promise;)

slander

So, let me get this straight...your griping about the Midwest All Stars ONLY paying $2000 to win in Illinois because your tracks in OHIO pay $2200-2500???? Here in Illinois, $2000 is more than some of these dumbass promoters are willing, or able, to pay. Hence, the schedule is lighter here than the would be liked. It's also easy for some of these promoters to badmouth the series as a reason for their own financial problems, far beyond booking a race with the series.

Prove your claims on bounced checks...with FACTS...not a bunch of heresay third or fourth hand. You want to charge the man on here...then bring forth factual evidence. Otherwise, it's slander.
Slander you say? True.... How bout this for you? Mr Webb.... wheres my 30 bucks for the Belleville show from waaaay back when? Multiply that times the 200 plus people in the pits, and the over $5000 dollars in the stands that night!! The night that didnt even get 4 cars into time trials... Yes!!! We counted people!! There were over 258 people in the stands at the Ville that night. Thats over 6000 grand in the pits, and at last count before the rain $5160 in the stands. No refunds given, only told it would be made good... Farmington wouldnt take mine a month or so later!! So where did the money go? The Track didnt get it...Brian Thompson didnt get it...whos left?? HHMM? FACT he was asked to return payment and didnt..Thats as good as a bounced check or failure to pay... Wait that is failure to pay!!! Well go figure.... Want to here it 458 more times??? Will that be proof enuf??

Oh Just in case anyone who doesnt know me, thinks I am hiding behind a screen name... Jason Brewington, Fredericktown, Mo.

I tried reading the whole thread, but I lost patience on page 4.

Let me break this down really simple for people like Guy Webb. It is antics like this that is a huge reason why the Late Models rule this area. In other parts of the country, late models are a support class. Around here, late models choke out sprints because the average fan cannot get enough exposure to them.

Mr. Webb, I have a business degree and I understand basic concepts of marketing so please here me out. Sprint car races are a rarety in this area. There are very few tracks around here that run weekly sprint car racing series. I would personally view 410 winged sprints as a dying class around here. What this class needs, is more events and more fan exposure. That will generate interest and therefore generate demand. That will allow you to sanction more events and attract more cars therefore making you, your drivers, and the tracks more money. You pay your drivers $2,000 to win because you are a special series. Midwest Monster late model drivers run many weekly events for $1,000 or $1,200 to win. But the tour pays $2,000 to win. Your drivers are willing to run for $1,200 to win because they just want to race. You aren't giving them enough races to run. These guys should be able to race EVERY WEEKEND without having to drive over 100 or so miles. Unfortunately, they can't because you want to control when they race, where they race, and what they race for. Then, when they do decide to go run an independent show you threaten them by saying you'll lower their purses. Mr. Webb, you're weakening your own product. Your focus should be on your races and your races alone.

The truth is Guy, I think you're afraid having a track run sprints on a regular basis. If they do, there would be track championships and point funds to run for. They wouldn't need you anymore Guy. This has nothing to do with what is best for sprint car drivers. It has everything to do with Guy Webb.

I'll continue to be a late model fan. I can go see them any and every weekend (weather permitting) without having to go far. I've been exposed to them enough that I know almost all of their names and now I have an emotional attachment to who wins and loses. That's what it means to have real fans. Late models have it. Sprints don't around here. You know, with the RIGHT leadership, they could. As long as Guy Webb is running them, they won't.

Very good post!

After reading the results from the Quincy race, I'd say the drivers have spoken. The drivers want to continue to support the MESS series and believe in the owner and what he's about. I would love to see Jacksonville take the winged specials off the schedule. Jacksonville, it looks like you will just get stabbed in the back AGAIN along with the rest of us fans. I will not support any MESS race and will think twice before attending any winged races in IL. Thanks to Jacksonville for the Friday nonwing show, I wish there had been more cars, Thanks Farmington for a great night of wings, you have a good thing going down there. The winged 410 guys seemed to have made your bed, now lie in it.

I was surprised that there was 21 cars after all the drama through the week. By reading the report on the MESS website sounded like it was a rubber down or one groove track. Dickerman in his tracks waiting for Moughan to make a mistake. Like thats going to happen with Moughan LOL plus it said quite a few drivers cut down their tires. Good race there Webb LOL The guys wanta race and I totally understand that. However sometimes if you take one step back that means you will take 2 steps forward in the near future. It amazes me that Jacksonville said get him out of the picture and wings will be back. So then there was a turnout of 21 cars. If there happens to be no 410 winged shows around here but Webbs in the near future my butt will make the haul to Knoxville once a month because like Ive stated before he nor his series will ever get any of my hard earned money. I think Jacksonville will get a great turnout of cars come the 26th. I will always support Jacksonville and wish nothing but the best for them. And Farmington, awesome show on Saturday! I will always go there at least once a month. Not only to see Steve and the crew, the friends I have made down there but also to support them for staying strong and continuing to run a weekly 410 winged show.

All Farmington needs is another track to take a chance( a big one) and then I get my friends from Ohio show me how to get it started and we can have a FAST Series of some kind and reward the drivers in this area!
