Babb Wins Twice At Macon Speedway

Just pointing out Babb isn't as squeaky clean as some of you think. By the way, Feger wasn't all that happy that Babb put him in the wall while he was leading in the closing laps. As far as I know Feger never repaid Babb.

Babb Wins Twice At Macon Speedway

I've been waiting for someone to bring up Phillips. He'd slide anyone whether he was clear or not and didn't care who he ran over or ticked off. I've never seen so much being made of a slider where there was no contact. So Babb had to hit the brakes. It happens to someone at every track nearly...

UMP? No UMP? How to help our local tracks?

Yes, we have several McD's in my area. All owned by the same guy. No one else can get a McD's here because this area is his protected turf. He paid for that turf with his franchise fees. I agree that the strong will survive and having choices is a good thing. I just don't believe a promoter that...

UMP? No UMP? How to help our local tracks?

It would be boring if we all agreed. OK, let's use lumber yards (or what passes as lumber yards these days) as an example.... Locally we have a Lowes and Menards within a 1/4 mile of each other. There's enough demand to keep both stores in business. There isn't enough demand for Home Depot to...

UMP? No UMP? How to help our local tracks?

To me a track having a sanction is a lot like burger joint, or new car dealer having a franchise. The franchise, or sanction should come with a certain amount of protected turf. I'm not saying tracks can't or shouldn't compete. I don't think it's healthy for the sport for nearby tracks racing...

UMP? No UMP? How to help our local tracks?

In my opinion UMP has lost (or at least changed) their focus. The cost to compete in all divisions is out of hand. Some of that is the racers' fault, some is UMP's fault. The problem with UMP "evolving" the rules is it makes it more difficult to rein the costs in, so the answer is to start...

Humpy Wheeler's 11 things all track promoters should be doing

I agree with Rodney about Macon. It's routine for them to wrap up the show before 10:30. Several years ago they ran hornets, SS, sportsman, mods, mini sprints and midgets. Total car count was approaching 225. We watched every race except for the hornet feature and were on our way home at...

For Fun: If I could go back in time, I'd sure like to ____________ race again!

Bill Cox Jr., Corky Ritter, Bobby Shell and Earl J (Hubert) at Sugar Island Park. Bill Van Allen, Don Waldvogel, and Arnie Gardner at Kankakee. Doug McCammon at Charleston. Roger Long at Rennselaer. Tony Izzo Sr. and Dick Nelson at Santa Fe Park. Ed Bauman and Dick Taylor at Macon. Ed Hoffman at...

    Restarts?

I've only seen double file restarts at 3 tracks. Fairbury, a track in TN, and Grundy County (asphalt). I saw a lot of cars get torn up at Fairbury but I can't say the double file restarts were to blame. The double file restarts sure help make the show to be more entertaining at Grundy. Some...

Michael Waltrip Racing, Clint Boyer, NASCAR

Team orders (teammates pitting) is one thing. Intentionally spinning under those circumstances is a new low. NASCAR has had almost as much credibility as WWE (and UMP) for a long time.

    Belle-Clair or Macon?

The POWRi shows at Macon are fantastic.

Riggs had a little trouble unloading the car at Paducah..

Erb did that at Clarksville a few years back. He had already unloaded one car and it broke the fall of the one he dropped off the hauler.

Late Models vs. Modifieds vs. Sprints !

That was a neat concept. Gotta give the promoter credit for trying something different. Kankakee had an exhibition between a late model and a motorcycle about 35 years ago. They started them a half lap apart. Didn't take long for Jimmy O'Connor to catch the motorcycle. I don't think either...

Highland SN Late Model & Mod Heat Lineups for Sunday!

This is UMP we're talking about. Of course it will be tails. You'd think after 30 years they'd be better at this than they are. Unlike some on here I don't want UMP to go away. I just want them to do things right.

    UMP license??

And that's part of the problem. If they are going to sanction a class the rules need to be uniform at all sanctioned tracks. Personally I don't have a problem with UMP requiring a license, but they're not providing value of the license to the racers when they don't have uniform rules and when...

Highland SN Late Model & Mod Heat Lineups for Sunday!

Jimmy, I had started to reply and got called away. That scenario is exactly what I was thinking about. Too bad the folks at UMP don't think far enough ahead to consider such scenarios.

Highland SN Late Model & Mod Heat Lineups for Sunday!

You posted what I was thinking. Talk about grey areas..... If Feger shows up to race a car that's already qualified (or his own car with someone's body that is qualified) no one will be more surprised than me if they let him race. Even if they let some other replacement drivers race. Just my...

Highland SN Late Model & Mod Heat Lineups for Sunday!

The chassis thing is easy to understand Jimmy. The problem is letting the 1 or 2 drivers that weren't there drive a car that was already qualified. If they are going to allow that they might as well allow anyone to race.

    UMP license??

There was a time when the "except in rare instances" policy was abused in IMCA. More recently from what I've heard they do a much better job of enforcing their rules than UMP.
